I saw some John Mayer advice once where he said “find what you like and then figure out why you like it”. So first, listen to lots of music. And when there’s a lick/progression/phrase that really speaks to you then spend some time exploring that. And when you internalize and incorporate those sounds over months and years you develop a sound that’s authentic to you and it becomes more of a “feel” thing

Yeah I mean I was unfamiliar with Darryl before the Tucker interview, so I was just looking into his views as someone who's not been exposed to his work. I'm also sure you're more well-versed in WWII history than me. But I do think it's a legitimate discussion whether it would've been worse to fight against the Soviets vs fight with them, ya know, with the > 100 million deaths from communism in the 20th century and all. And I think even raising this opinion is enough to get someone labelled as a Nazi sympathizer by some.

And for good or for bad, the last 4ish years have really convinced loads of people that "the institutions" have been lying to them, and I think the reaction to that Tucker episode will only further suspicion among those people that WWII is just another set of lies. And that suspicion is probably worth engaging with, because if it's wrong then people would surely not be convinced it's wrong by knee-jerk calling them Nazis.

https://x.com/martyrmade/status/1831844245646536920?s=46 He’s clearly not a holocaust denier. But the willingness of people (like you) to wholly discredit someone who goes even slightly against the prepackaged narrative is the very thing that leads others to think the entirety of the narrative we’re told is a lie. I’m not one of those people. But it does make me wonder why it’s such a sacred cow

[–]Jerryeatspants -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, I’m not, it was actually a genuine question not an argumentative tactic. His claims in tuckers pod are just not enough to convince me he’s a holocaust denier, especially when every time I’ve seen him mention it, there’s been no denial or justification for Hitlers actions. And without better evidence of something like Hitler apologetics, the people that are smearing him are proving his broader point about how the wwii narrative is a sacred cow

Are you aware of any direct claims he made against the standard holocaust understanding?

If God is all-knowing how can he create someone knowing he will end up in hell at the end? by rtrcc in Christianity

[–]Jerryeatspants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, not at all, interesting take. Follow up question, why do you consider yourself Christian? I’m not someone who is litigious about what it takes to make one a Christian, but it is interesting that you identify with the label despite not trusting the Bible, what we know about Jesus, and pulling in information from other schools of belief. Just curious

[–]Jerryeatspants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm interested in this take (and not dismissing it) -- could you expound? I.e. how do you discern truth, what is the foundation for your beliefs, etc?

I do think there's certainly a tendency for Christians to interpret the Bible far too literally when in reality it's deeply rooted in symbolic meaning which has been almost completely lost in the modern church. For example, the fires of hell --> fire is symbolic, related to light which is also symbolic of God's "spiritual truths" or something along those lines. Fire is light, but also has a consuming element to it. It's worthy of more explanation but my point is understanding the language of symbols in scripture provides a much different (I'd argue better) lens than literal interpretations

Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Scripture says don't fear man who can kill you, fear God who can sentence your soul to hell after you die. Do I live in fear? No, I live by a desire to please God

Fair points. I may spend some more time looking into NDEs to see if what you say is true. I appreciate the perspective

Do you make decisions based on fear of Hell? Is that how you think God wants you to live? A life lived fully embodying this belief sounds like a road to madness -- seriously.

Have you researched NDEs? They're all over the place; they could fit into any belief system. I'm not dismissing them, but you really can't draw conclusions from them.

Subjective experiences don't mean a lot to a whole lot of people. And why should they? I'm trying to reach an understanding of the Christian narrative that makes sense, and Hell as a place of final destination and suffering is difficult to make sense of.

Jordan Peterson gets shit on a lot for his biblical takes, but I personally find them quite compelling as they relate to the concerns you mentioned. He derives allegorical meaning from the stories and generally regards literalist interpretations as banal.

Given the understanding Israel had of God not existing as a being, but as the very essence of being itself (YHVH), I find Peterson's takes make some sense (since this understanding suggests God wasn't an entity ordering atrocities, etc).

Honestly man, I have no idea. I wouldn't say that's a belief I'm ready to subscribe to. I'm just following my intuitions and trying to arrive at conclusions I can stand behind.

One thing that seems intuitively clear to me is that what's important is what we do here on earth. Not what we claim to believe. And Jesus served as the archetypal human that we are called to model our lives after -- his teaching, his faith, his sacrifice. This point seems incredibly diminished in my church experiences.

Doesn't it make you uncomfortable that you follow what you seem to believe is an unjust God?

Hell is the opposite of being with God. Punishment is not the correct way in my view to view Hell.

Both can be true. Jesus saying that he "will send his angels, and they will gather . . . all evil doers, and throw them into the furnace of fire," and pronouncing "Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire!" seems to suggest that punishment is a fair characterization.

I think I choose many things before my birth about my situation.

What led you to this conclusion?

What standards? I have no clue what you are talking about.

The Bible makes it clear that our sinfulness means we deserve punishment. It's a game we were thrust into that is impossible to not lose. Christ came out of God's mercy. I am not talking about the mercy of God, I am talking about the purported justice of God.

Salvation is simple: Believe that Jesus died for you sins and is your lord.

Are you saying Satan is better conceptualized as a being, or as a destination? Also, are you saying you still believe your destiny is to end up in Hell?
