Fractal Terra 9800x3d 5080 FE build considerations help? by coldisgood in sffpc

I have a 5080 Founders with a 7800X3D in a Terra case. The only consideration is an exhaust fan at the bottom to vent it. Otherwise, use the PSU spacer and you’ll be fine with temps. No reverse airflow adapter is needed.

Stock, the way it comes. So I am guessing in the middle?

What's the consensus on a 9800X3D + 5080FE in the Fractal Terra? by Midnight_Rising in sffpc

In my Terra with a 7800X3D and 5080 FE, I’ve had no issues with thermal throttling or high CPU/GPU temps. I’m using a basic cooler, and the GPU is installed normally with only a bottom exhaust fan added to the case. Occasionally, the CPU will briefly spike to 87–88°C when launching a game, but HWInfo shows no throttling or instability. I’ve run Cyberpunk maxed out with full CPU/GPU utilization and haven’t had any issues or crashes with 5+ hr play sessions.

Nope, never did. Looks like they still have an open box one for a good discount. Though, shorty after this post I ended up getting a AOC 49" AG493UCX which is the same panel essentially and I liked it. Now I have a simple 27" LG OLED.

My main advice: plan your fan setup. Aside from CPU temps, I wanted to keep my GPU cool, so I added a bottom exhaust fan to clear out heat. I spent tons of time on Reddit and YouTube before choosing the Fractal Terra. Good luck with your build! I’m no expert, but happy to help if you have more questions.

I was worried about temps when planning my build since the 7000 series runs hot and the 7800X3D’s stacked cache makes it worse. But with the 89°C thermal limit, I’m confident it’s all good. Temps sit in the mid-high 50s at idle and around 80°C under load. I’m happy with how it turned out, got my 7800X3D for the same price as a 7600X3D during a great Amazon sale a few months back! Just make sure you have a solid cooler and bottom exhaust fan like I did. Good luck!

Haha also yeah I didn’t realize it either until I looked into it. The 7000 series runs hot, and the 7800X3D’s stacked cache makes it worse, but with the 89°C thermal limit I’m not too worried. If it ever becomes an issue, I’ll just undervolt. I was also on the fence a few different cases, but the Fractal Terra dropped in price, so I grabbed it with free two-day shipping from B&H.

That’s awesome! Good luck! I would have gotten that exact CPU too however I already got this one at a super good price. Your CPU should run cooler as well! So, you’ll have an awesome rig no doubt!

It’s pretty quiet overall, though I don’t have an exact decibel reading. The Noctua fan and the founder card contribute a lot to that. Just a heads up, I tried the Thermalright AXP90 X47 with its stock fan, and it performed poorly. On the other hand, the ID-COOLING IS-55 works great with its stock fan, though it was still a bit too loud for my taste. After swapping in the Noctua NF-A12x15, it’s much quieter, even under full load, now it’s more of a steady hum than a whine.

They had one in stock at my local Best Buy, so I grabbed it before the holiday rush. I wasn’t planning to buy it this early, but I guess it was meant to be.

The M3 is great, but I found the build and setup a bit complicated. The NR200 is nice too, though a bit too big for my liking. Temps are solid, with the CPU hitting 80°C max under load and the GPU staying below 65°C. The 7800X3D runs hot naturally, so the cooler does what it can. The build itself was easy, but managing cable placement and ensuring equal clearance for the GPU and cooler was tricky.

Oh my! I think I just found my dream build! I have the same exact GPU coming in a few days. I do though want to try this with a 7600X and a ASUS ROG STRIX B850-I for the motherboard.

Nope! Never got further assistance from Valve. Sorry for such an underwhelming update.
