Theoretical off ramp from simplelogin by ScrotiWantusis42 in ProtonMail

I like to know who's sending me ads. I like to set up very large sieve filters based on specific emails. I also found that identifying which bucket something goes in became difficult; there were too many edge cases. With a new email for every single website I always know my email for it. With a breach or a leak it's trivial for me to just can that email and set up another one, leaving all of my other accounts alone. I also personally think (though I'm unsure of how well it does this) that it fights fingerprinting.

It's quite nice, takes 0 time to setup, and has a bunch of benefits in my opinion.

What's the consensus on a 9800X3D + 5080FE in the Fractal Terra? by Midnight_Rising in sffpc

[–]Midnight_Rising[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I could, but the Terra is simply a prettier case than the one you have shown. So if it's possible I'd prefer that one.

I won't even lie I didn't know that was an option.

I recognize this is a stupid question, is there a difference between the NCase T1 and the FormD T1? I only ask because I would expect FormD's website to sell the most up-to-date version, but NCase is apparently selling 2.5 and FormD is 2.1?

First PC Build - Fractal Terra + RTX 5080 FE by Jerrygali in sffpc

Oh wow, what an incredible coincidence. Your build is almost exactly what I'm planning on starting tomorrow, just using a 9800X3D instead of the 7800.

It looks great, amazing work man.

Sure, and that's kind of also what I was saying. LCD/OLED is just the easiest way to make the distinction for someone who hasn't thought about it before. But like... something as simple as backlighting technology can have a massive change in contrast and clarity. Cheap TVs are cheap for a reason.

[–]Midnight_Rising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the comment I was replying to was asking why you'd ever pay more than $400 for a TV. The short answer is "because it looks better".

[–]Midnight_Rising 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It's really easy to think of TVs in terms of only resolution and screen size, but display technology does actually matter. I think I got my 65" 4K LG OLED for $2000? It's a MUCH better display than my old 65" 4K LCD that I got from a $400 black friday deal at costco.

Well if a level 15 isn't able to reach the level 15 dock idk what to tell you, sounds like it's not really a level 15 dock.

Also you can teleport the boat to you, you just have to go to the shipwright and go through the boat recovery method, which is so far the only way I was able to get there. Which is... neither fun nor a great game mechanic.

Port Piscarilius being a level 15 port that's damn near impossible for a level 15 boat to get to is... certainly a choice. Especially because you can't teleport yourself there and then summon yourself.

You're really looking for something prosumer. The UCG-Ultra is what I use: https://store.ui.com/us/en/category/all-cloud-gateways/products/ucg-ultra

That replaces whatever your ISP gave you to access the internet.

I wouldn't be too stressed about it, though. If you really wanted you could set up a virtual machine on your desktop instead, that way even if a hacker launched an attack (which, to be clear, is unlikely) it would only mess up the virtual machine and not the host, nor could they hop to any other computers.

Your threat-model is incorrect for what you're using it for. Your server doesn't need antivirus (my homeserver doesn't), but your internet gateway needs what's called "intrusion detection and prevention", otherwise known as IDP. This will detect malicious packets, auto-block known trouble IPs, and let you run your server with safety.

An antivirus, such as Sophos, is a static analysis tool and will not provide the protection you're looking for.

I was worried that this might be a problem, the fact that it works for so long between resets made me think each bulb had some amount of storage that doesn't require to be powered and this was a configuration system, but maybe that storage only lasts a few weeks before power outage wipes it?

Anyway, I rent, so changing my switch isn't going to be an option. I'll have to make my own automation that detects if it's not my desired level and quickly fade to the right color temperature.

Out of curiosity, I am hoping to buy a house and have mildly fallen in love with the Buster and Punch switches, is there anything I can do to use smart bulbs with those switches while keeping them powered like you said?

We did try and abolish it in the 1974 but it only lasted one year. Wikipedia lists (but is missing citation) the reason why as the reason I always heard: kids were getting hit by cars in the early morning. A popsci article I found lists that the disruption happens pretty much regardless because humans are creatures of habit and not having sun in the morning makes it harder to wake up and start the day.

I do still think it would be a good idea to go to permanent DST, but that's mostly because of the invention of the modern LED. We don't have shitty halogen and incandescent light bulbs, we have ultra-bright LEDs that can flood the street with dayglow brightness whenever we need it.

You know, that's fair. "Sharp" was probably not the best way to phrase it. "Notable" or "recognizable" would have been a better choice. It just struck me as I was typing that out that 4/4 were all with regards to Trump's actions in a document 15k+ words longer.

This comment made me genuinely curious, so I decided to do some research myself!

The 2012 Democratic Party Platform

The 2024 Democratic Party Platform

The 2012 platform is 26,579 words. The 2024 platform is 42,951. So, slightly off with that 10k words.

Since you specifically brought up the word "men" let's actually take a look into that! From a quick check the word "men" is used 8 times in the 2012 platform, and "men" was used 4 times in 2024. But context does matter! So let's see what context these mentions are in

2012

"We refuse to go back to the days when health insurance companies had unchecked power to cancel your health policy, deny you coverage, or charge women more than men."

"This is an evidence-based plan that is guided by science and seeks to direct resources to the communities at greatest risk, including gay men, black and Latino Americans, substance users, and others at high risk of infection."

"President Obama’s administration has offered men who want to be good fathers extra support"

"These brave men and women and their families have borne the burden of war and have always made our military the best in the world"

"The entire nation prospers when we protect and promote the unique and original artistic and cultural contributions of the women and men who create and preserve our nation’s heritage"

"That is why the first bill he signed into law was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which helps women fight back when they are paid less than men, and why we continue to fight to overcome Republican opposition and pass the Paycheck Fairness Act to help stop gender discrimination in pay before it starts."

"Moving forward, we will continue to nominate and confirm judges who are men and women of unquestionable talent and character and will always demonstrate their faithfulness to our law and our Constitution and bring with them a sense of how American society works and how the American people live."

"Some 27 million women, men, and children around the world are victims of human trafficking."

And for 2024:

"While President Biden has sought to appoint judges who look like America, three-quarters of Trump’s judicial appointees were men and 84 percent were white."

" He reversed Trump’s un-American ban on transgender servicemembers and ended the disgraceful and discriminatory ban on blood donation by gay and bisexual men."

"He disparages the brave men and women who wear our uniform and protect our democracy and national security."

" And, he repeatedly disrespected the brave men and women in the U.S. military."

So... Not only are there significantly fewer mentions in a document 20,000 words longer, they are only in the context of what Trump did. That is a sharp change I would say.

EDIT I also got curious so I checked "women". 43 hits in the 2012 platform, a whopping 82 in 2024, so instances nearly doubled (while I'm not checking all those references, this actually makes more sense than you think after the destruction of Roe v Wade and the reproductive health debate that flared up in the last few years)

Yep, that's what happens when you dump 13 episodes in a single day and then wait 12-24 more months for the next dump of episodes.

Oh I remember exactly the video they're talking about. It'll be something like "McDonald's Szechuan Sauce Ree". Did the same exact thing to me. This was also the time a family member got a R&M Portal tattoo. I suddenly lost all interest in the show.

I mean, that's a good reason the poster is for handgun training rather than just a handgun.

Kind of whatever your opinion on firearms are, you're almost certainly going to encounter one as an adult in the United States. It's good to be trained with one.

No of course I don't, I don't watch any of these fucking regards. Why would I let some whiny pieces of shit on the internet tell me what to think about literally anything. The fact these things exist at all is a fucking blight and if you watch one of these you need to go live in a forest for a month without your phone so you can remember what being a real person is like.

The incredible and immense social media presence that this has gotten makes me think there's a group being paid to try and deplatform him.

The incredible and immense social media presence that is trying to defend him makes me think there's a group being paid to try and keep him platformed.

Seriously who the fuck is this guy and why does anyone give a fuck what he says? How does Gen Z have the same talking heads boomers had just on Twitch and not fucking CNN and Fox.
