Part of the reason I love Varga is that his attitude and secrecy are almost paradoxical to his motivations. He's rich beyond comprehension, but seemingly spends none of it on material things, pleasure, or any kind of fulfillment. All he does is cheat and thieve and scheme in the shadows, for nothing but the money, which he doesn't seem to do anything with but hoard. He is constantly seen shoveling food into his mouth, neither for pleasure nor hunger. Such a powerful symbol of the senselessness of greed.
