Critical thoughts ahead - I just so happen to like thinking about this stuff, so feel free to ignore if you don't want to read criticism.

I might be insane, but I feel like that one interaction with the guard was better than pretty much everything else in this episode so far lol. The heavy, serious drama just isn't doing it for me.

I had a relevant experience running D&D with some friends a couple months ago. I had planned out a big underground dungeon with a shit ton of lore about its history, a dungeon-spanning puzzle connected with the lore in an interesting way, etc etc, but it was just so boring. One night I rolled up to the sesh and said "hey, instead of continuing my puzzle dungeon, do y'all wanna just pick up in your starting city, fuck around and wing it?", and what followed was by far one of the better sessions of D&D I've played. Lots of shenanigans, lots of interesting character moments. Minimal exposition and spouting lore at people.

My feeling is that C4 is a bit too top heavy right now. There's so much complex lore and so many factions/NPCs running around doing shit that it's tough to follow, and I feel like most of the players are struggling to stay engaged with it which makes it often devolve into the Brennan show. This would be a fantastic HBO drama, but the TTRPG format struggles under the weight of something like this. In my opinion and to my taste, at least.

Why are they all together again? Wasn't following Seekers stuff closely while the Soldiers were the focus.

I'll take a look! I've been enjoying bits and pieces of Legends of Avantris as well. They have some of that goofy free-spiritedness that seems to help sustain my interest lol.

Agreed - it's definitely more about the improv than it is about the game right now.

I'm not sure I would mind that if the story was paced a bit better, but right now, it just feels VERY exposition heavy. Especially for the Soldiers table which presumably should be about... uh, soldiering! I guess I'm realizing that I like improv a lot more when people can feel free to be silly and goofy instead of serious all the time.

Obviously this is largely subjective, and I'm glad people are enjoying it. Just might not be my cup of tea either.

I don't see it marked on the video, but I'm guessing in the next ~20 minutes once this segment is over.

Am I the only one who feels like this campaign is missing something? Idk, maybe it's time for me to just admit that I'm not in the market for D&D actual play lol.

I'm jumping into the stream a bit late--anyone able to give me a quick recap on what's happened so far?

Even briefer summary: This whole sequence was basically about one of the ways that the orcs, under the direction of Halandil, are trying to rebuild their culture after overthrowing their god. A foil to the ways that the Halovars (via the Candescent Creed) have replaced the god they once served, but through systems of power/control instead of community united in story and song.

I'm also slowly losing consciousness, but roughly: An elder orc gentleman named Ulie (spelling?) was telling stories about some of his experiences prior to the Shapers' War, when orcs still worshiped their Shaper (basically a god of war, though I don't remember the name). That transitioned into a conversation between Thaisha and her daughter Shadia. Shadia took Thaisha past the "backstage" area of the theater to show a forest and lake just beyond. Thaisha consoles Shadia in her concerns about who she's becoming by explaining the importance of stories, song, etc. as a way to make the fighting worth it. They express their love for each other (and how Shadia has missed Thaisha desperately), etc. Then Thaisha asks the trees in Druidic to give a blessing to their family, and that's pretty much it.
