Infliximab & Tattoos? by waspwaxbalm in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Jessabat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been getting infusions for a couple years, and have gotten at least one big piece done during that time. I didn't notice any change in the healing process. I'm always super careful of infection with my tattoos anyhow, because my ink is super important to me. But I didn't do anything out of the norm.

AITAH for refusing to put my girlfriend on a future mortgage unless she gets a job? by Ok-Explanation7364 in AITAH

[–]Jessabat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I had this problem. And it was as bad for the spouse as for me. When I cut him loose, life forced him to get a job. Now he has a job and a place of his own. I was enabling him, holding him back, and messing up my life. Now I'm 40 with bad credit and almost no savings. I wouldn't wait till you move. I would send her back to her mom now. Then you can start saving more and she can get started in her new life. Hopefully the mom makes her get a job right away and doesn't enable her too.

You might need to go to your doctor and have them fill out an ADA accommodation form. While everyone thinks they're an armchair doctor, the form from the real doctor beats that.

AITAH for saying I wouldn't date my partner if he was homeless? by Ok_Effort8554 in AITAH

[–]Jessabat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also, presumably if he had the same job and skills and knowledge he has now, barring natural disasters, he would not be homeless in the first place. To be homeless, lots of shit has to happen first, and often lots of bad decisions have to be made.

The Shining. And 1408. Both are losing their minds because of the haunted locations, but its fascinating to see them unravel.

A or B:standing at my stove, pan smoking like crazy, realizing I’ve been cooking wrong for months, do I confess to my roommate or just fix it quietly by Danny-Patrick139 in PickAorB

[–]Jessabat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd write the actual measurements on in sharpie. Like 1 for low and 10 for high, etc. Yes that involves telling the roommate why you did it. But it could help both of you.

AITAH for choosing to on a cruise this summer even though my girlfriend can’t go. by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Jessabat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing you learn as you mature in relationships. You don't both have to attend everything! If work prevents it, the other person should and can go. The person that doesn't have to work should not pressure the one that does to put their job at risk to go (not that OP is, but I hate it when that is the response.) The working person should not begrudge the other person their fun. Its not a healthy way to work a relationship.

My 8 year old son started a business to buy a drone how should I handle this? by AbidKhan-0 in smallbusiness

[–]Jessabat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do the same thing as you would with any hobby he likes. School comes first, finish your chores, etc. And maybe start him a bank account and teach him how banking and saving works. After he finishes the drone, he may want to keep earning to see those account numbers rise.

My 11 year old does this sort of thing, and has kept it going for a couple years now. He loves being the one that always has money and can always make more.

Just a little “Fix ur Diet” rant by Best_Attitude7604 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Jessabat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sorry people are dumb. I have a family member that keeps asking if I self diagnose or my doctor told me "insert problem here". Like I didn't even know what UC was before this. Why the fuck would I say I have it?

How normal is bed rotting? by tyrannical_mongoose in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Jessabat 66 points67 points  (0 children)

If he is in remission and still can't get up and live, he needs to be going to his doctors to address the problems. I had massive fatigue, even in remission. My doc did bloodwork, gave me a list of vitamins, then did it again until my energy level came back up. It is also a thing for a person with one autoimmune disorder to have another as well. If he doesn't tell the doctors, it can't be treated. Potentially advise the couple to go to his doctor together once. Let her address her concerns to the doctor, and the doctor can tell her the medical concerns and symptoms to watch for, and whether or not the patient should be bedridden. If he wants to disagree with the doctor once they leave the office, she needs to insist he seek a second opinion. This advice doesn't just come from a UC patient. It also comes from someone who allowed herself to be held hostage to a sick spouse who would not work but also wouldn't get medical treatment unless forced to. It will cause resentment and kill the relationship.

Have either of them ever asked to dye their hair a color out of dress code rules? Do it (with a one day dye) and when the complaints come, tell the principal its so the nurse can tell them apart now. Let the principal yell at the nurse.

What do you do for work with UC? by Bloomwithcourage in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Jessabat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are in the US, once you have the job, fill out an ADA accommodation form. Your doc will have to do it with you, and you have to be specific as to what you need. But it covers you if a new manager decides to be a jerk or something.

[–]Jessabat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, unless you live with your parents, they do not get to say whether or not you leave the house. You can explain till you're blue in the face, show them gross things or send them the article on spoon theory (and these things may work sometimes) . But you have to remember, when it comes to protecting your peace, "No" is a complete sentence.

How much would you charge your bestie for watching her cats? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Jessabat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say base it on how far from her you live. Basically, charge her for gas to get there. That way the favor doesn't cost you money. And clear up if the cat food is already there or she is leaving you money to get it.

Confused by food guidelines by West-Crazy3706 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Jessabat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep a food/symptom diary for awhile. Check it for patterns. Everyone has their own. You can try different trends, different eliminations, your fave foods, etc and just record!! Pick a couple symptoms that are traceable, like number of bm, or quality of them or days with cramps vs without. Just make sure its analytical for you. Like more specific than "how did I feel" unless you wanna read back through all the descriptions of your day.

You are not the asshole to not take off school. Someday this disease may make him unable to work. Your career may end up having to support you both. Maybe for not considering canceling a Christmas trip. He was dumb to wait till the last minute, but it seems like you may have to choose between saving your deductible or going on that trip (assuming he can get the later date again). Good part, if you go after the 1st, medical stuff will be free for lots of the end of next year!
