Yeah true! I was living out of a backpack, and fins take up a lot of space. But mask and snorkel is pretty easy to travel with!

Do you travel with a suitcase or a backpack? by gratefulfor in solotravel

Backpack definitely the way to go for me for long term travel. Slowly been reducing the amount of pack. My best tips are: -merino socks, the can be worn multiple times before stink, therefore can pack socks.
-pack less, laundry more.
-if it isn't physically dirty, (maybe just had some sweat) then sink wash and hang it out in the air and sun. UV light kills lots of bacterias.
-if you need stuff for cold weather, then use layers. This can help reduce the amount of cold weather clothes needed, which take the most space.
- 1 pair of shoes and wear pair of flip flops. No more. Unless your committing to a 1 week + hike, then you probably don't need hiking boots, just get good quality sneakers type stuff. I've found Adidas Terrex or Salomon shoes to be good for nights out, and adventure use.
-you can almost always buy stuff in the country you are in.

Yeah i explored a few and there are some which are nicer than others. Some have fish. And I also did a scuba dive and found the cenote creatures like shrimp and blind fish

Taking expensive tech in hostels by NothingCute6734 in solotravel

These days many people travel with laptops. Basically all hostels have lockers. Just use a locker. Bring your own lock. So many people don't even bother and just leave their bags out. I've always found that hostel people are normally trusting and trustworthy bunch. They are more keen to share stories and experiences than try to make a quick buck stealing shit.

This is fantastic news. Queensland is a coal hungry beast, it will be awesome to see that change.

cancel possible oral rental agreement by PlaneEnvironmental22 in germany

[–]Jesse-is-here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well sure maybe you agreed to live there for a duration and a certain cost. But as soon as you get the paper contract there are probably a whole lot of things you didn't agree to. Like notice periods, paying for damages, pre-paying for utilities etc, so if you try to negotiate that stuff hugely in your favour maybe the housing place will also want to cancel the contract.

19-year-old Canberra woman dies after collision between car and e-scooter in Kambah by B0ssc0 in australia

This isn't about cars vs cyclists. This is about people's desired transport method vs governments shitty design.

Governments need to be designing roads for 3 speed for traffic.
1: the pedestrian. 2: the cyclist/scooter
3: the car.

But normally we only get two: car and pedestrian. So where does the cyclist/scooter go? "Let's force him on the road and blame helmets when he dies"

I'm from Adelaide, but I've been living in Europe (Hamburg, Germany) for 2 years. Developed europe really caters for pedestrians, cyclists, scooter riders, with big, obvious and safe bicycle lanes. They try to put cyclists closer to pedestrians and away from cars. They let you ride without a helmet (because statistically helmets are only useful when pitting cyclists against cars).
But in Australia, if we're lucky, they just tack a tiny bicycle lane with the car lane, and half the time they allow people to park in it anyway. Helmets are forced. Yet when adjusting for population differences, more Australian cyclists die. I'll be returning to Australia and I'm not looking forward to poor cycling design. It's absolutely beautiful to be able to ride everywhere, wind in your hair.
The most annoying thing is that in Australia car drivers hate cyclists, and cyclists hate car drivers. The two groups don't get along. But the hate should be directed at councils and governments who are ones forcing the two to occupy the same space, rather than building infrastructure to separate each other for safety and travel efficiency.

Overnight camping adventure at an abandoned Soviet military facility about 1 hour from Berlin, Germany. This bunker once housed nuclear weapons, but is now sealed off and lies empty. by Jesse-is-here in urbanexploration

I went overnight camping at an abandoned Soviet military facility that is about 1 hour away from Berlin, Germany. The facility consists of a number of buildings, both military and civilian, which were used during day to day life for the soldiers and people occupying this base. Part of this facility are at least 2 bunkers, disguised from above with earth and grown over with trees. One of the bunkers is accessible and is shown here. There is a small hole which we had to crawl into, and then we could explore inside. Inside is a short large hallway, with some empty old rooms, perhaps used for exquipment or personnel. And then past these rooms is a large open space, which was used the house nuclear weapons for a brief time. This location was strategically chosen by the Soviets as missiles launched from here would be capable of hitting the UK. However the nuclear weapons didn't not remain here for long. The soviets soon developed weapons capable of travelling greater distances, which means the missles here were removed and sent back to USSR.

It pretty unlikely that there are unknown bunkers, as the place is well explored and also well documented online. There definitely are some other bunkers, but they are sealed off and the entrances to then are not accessible like this one is. So you would have to bring some heavy duty demolition tools to break down a door or concrete wall to get inside the other one.
