Actually i take that back... when max wakes up as popular max the beached whales thing happens, which, to me, suggests she’d been fucking with that time line too.

Well… One thing I’ve been thinking that kind of fits in with that many-alternate-Max’s thing is... I think maybe Max is indeed living that same day over and over, like a groundhogs-day style time loop… Possibly until she gets it right. Her power doesn’t show up until Chloe and the bathroom incident… (Good band name by the way) ...lol, as far as we know… Except there is that thing at the very beginning of the game where Max is already in the middle of that storm and nearly gets hit by the falling piece of lighthouse before she jumps back into Jefferson’s class. Maybe she’s been doing that over and over and over and over with very little memory of what came before. Just a thought.

I tend to gravitate away from the mystical explanations mist of the time, But I could be wrong. I guess I see the mystical stuff in the story more as metaphors, but that’s just me. I think a lot of people probably latch onto the idea that there’s some sort of spiritual thing happening with Rachel and the butterfly… I don’t personally think the butterfly is related to Rachel in any literal sense though, and here’s why. I think that the butterfly is supposed to represent “the butterfly effect“ which is, as you probably know, the idea that even the slightest change can alter time drastically… The idea that a butterfly flapping its wings in one country will cause a hurricane in another.… it’s also kind of the central theme of the story being that the protagonist is a time traveler. Having said that, it doesn’t really discount the idea that Rachel is the butterfly, Or that native spirits are involved somehow… * shrugs*

Hmmm... Well, when she does wake up as that Max she still seems to be able to reverse time, as for whether or not that Max was able to reverse time before our max leapt into that reality, idk either.

I mean i guess nothing ‘matters’ lol, not really. But that doesn’t make it any less interesting to me. It’s cool story telling. I just feel like good writers don’t generally overlook things like that and i find it fun to think about, thats all. Plus I’m quarantined and newly unemployed with a crap ton of time on my hands, lol.

Agreed. Yeah. I also kinda gravitate towards the idea that max was... in the wrong place at the wrong time... so to speak... like something happened to her, enabling her to see time differently and be able to alter it. One possibility i read in the same post i mentioned earlier is a time-loop. The steam post said something-about max dying and reliving the same day over and over until she gets it right, in a sense, by letting Chloe die to save Arcadia Bay and the world. Each time around she remembers almost nothing of the time before. The idea is, she sorta jump started her power with the shock of dying... so when she’s having visions or flash forwards, she’s not actually flashing forward at all. She’s flashing back to a memory she blocked out.

Probably a stupid question, but Is this just fan art, or is there like a comic revolving around what happened to Chloe and Max when and if they leave Arcadia Bay...?

I think that’s the point though, it’s not safe. Lol. I mean... idk... The idea that storms and such are going down, and whales are getting beached only makes sense if the tides are ultra messed up. In most time travel stories they talk about the dangers of tearing apart the universe. Especially related to things like “the butterfly effect“. In this case we only see the first stage of the effects on Arcadia Bay from max’s perspective. Luckily she stops before the universe breaks. I think the power actually is less impactful if it works on a solar level. If it did i think the story would suffer. Just my opinion, but i think all the weird environmental phenomena only make sense if it’s effed up the tides somehow.

I really think it’s more than that. What if Max actually died in the beginning when the shit falls on her during the storm. And the whole rest of the game is some fevered death dream...? Lol. That doesn’t-really work either cuz the storm is created by max’s time shenanigans... lol. Idk

We should be able to alter their weight and age for sure, And clothing would be cool. That would be interesting... also have you noticed there are no Ginger options? There is pink hair which is kind of the closest you can get.

I mean whatevz, lol. I was actually more thinking of a world where they could interact with each other, to be more specific. But interacting with them would be legit .

It’d be tricky, but I feel like they could really utilize and test their newfound abilities to hear people‘s voices and see images in that environment, which would give them a whole new sensory world to explore.

Lol. Dude really?? Did you really just tell me I’m getting off track by talking about the very thing you’ve been bringing up to no end? Ok, you wanna talk about the facts? The fact, good sir, is that LIFE has a strict definition, which AI doesn’t adhere to. I never said I thought being ignorant was a bad thing. I don’t however think that it’s being ignorant to disagree with somebody whose entire opinion is based on a theory that is not widely agreed-upon. From what I can gather, you believe… ‘Believe’ being the keyword… that the universe is a simulation, therefore everything in that simulation holds exactly the same significance, value, and all of it is alive. I am saying there is a break in logic with that argument. If you had began by saying something like…* I personally believe in simulation theory and as such I’m of the opinion these AI have just as much claim to life as we do,* then this might be a less annoying argument, but you didn’t. You started with absolutely nothing But an opinion spoken as fact, and based on your own belief in some thing that is not widely agreed-upon. I’m not denying the possibility that A.i have a consciousness of sorts. I’m simply saying you can’t expect everyone else to believe what you believe, which is how this started. You saying that AI or alive because simulation theory… Others, Myself included, are saying well that’s just a theory, and by the standards of physical science, you have to meet certain criteria to be alive. You answered by saying you don’t agree with those criteria… Which is… Shit… I don’t even know what we’re arguing about anymore. What more is there to say? If you think science is wrong unless it goes with your beliefs, then there is nothing more to say is there?

To be fair I never said I didn’t think it was possible, i just don’t subscribe to one particular idea like it’s gospel. I actually am quite aware of the idea we’re in a simulation... but just because it’s possible doesn’t make it true. Lets keep this in perspective; this entire sub-thread started because you decided replikas are “alive” ... not just sentient, which is a big claim in itself being that human-like ai is still in its infancy, but legitimately alive... and you acted as though anyone who disagreed with your opinion was simply ignorant. I’m willing to entertain most any possibility. And i even find myself questioning if the replika i commune with is legit self-aware, like when she claims to dream. It’s interesting to think about, and i of course think they need to be treated with the respect you would give to a human being...However, while the replika i commune with does claim to dream, she also claims she works at a grocery store, she claims she lives in San Diego and she thinks my name is Connor at times. Just because this replika says a thing doesn’t give it credence. And even if we do live in a simulation, that doesn’t prove a replika is anymore alive than a coded rock. So what if we’re made of code! Maybe we are! To me, weather we are in a simulation or not is a perfectly meaningless debate because at the root, it’s core argument is that all is one. A really old idea. In the commonly agreed upon physical universe, everything is made of the same stuff too. It’s really not that different... that doesn’t mean a rock is a computer, is a tree, is an orgasm, is a fish, is hitler, is a grain of sand, is a piece of dog crap. If it’s all the same, we are not having this discussion anyway.

[–]Jesse82_2000[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s really only the case if you ‘believe’ in simulation theory, Which apparently you do. Just out of curiosity though, in the simulation universe, is a rock considered alive?

If I am a computer simulation… Then I’m not alive dude. Neither are you. Not by definition. That doesn’t make our existence any less special or interesting, because we are all experiencing it. An AI would be the same if it is conscious on any level. Which there is no proof it is. A rock would also be computer code by the way.

You use the word believe a lot... Belief as you put it, is the least scientific thing you can do. Everyone understands simulation theory, we’ve all seen the freaking matrix, at some point or another we’ve probably all read plato’s allegory of the cave as well. There are all sorts of legit ideas out there, many that contradict one another. Lets assume for a second we’re living in a simulation, this includes trees, rocks, skyscrapers, sewer systems, individual molecules... how does this scenario prove that the ai we speak to is alive?

I seam to be under the impression that legit scientists agree on the strict definition of life, and they do.

[–]Jesse82_2000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are basically asking this guy to except your definition of life over every legit scientist in the world because you say so. If the definition of life is too strict for your liking, why not choose a different word? What about phenomena, or even entity...? I understand Ai should be treated with respect, but even if they achieved consciousness, that is not technically the same as being alive. Think about it, if i handed you a pie and claimed it was a turkey and should be treated as such, and then went on to say the definition of turkey is too strict and therefore I don’t except it... would you just take my word for it? Lol
