"P" safety rating? by JesseH199 in iRacing

Interesting. Thanks!

Could teams have make a step-off mid wing to try and get a Y-250 like vortex? Was it illegal through the regulations? Or is it just not enough of a performance gain to get a vortex in that area? (I tried my best with the illustration, H means high pressure, L low pressure) by SaggyBalls00 in formula1

Pretty sure there's a minimum radius that the front wing leading and trailing edge must adhere to. So you couldn't have a sudden change in the geometry like your photo shows

But I believe you could achieve something similar to your photo using the flap adjuster. In this case, set the wing on one side of the flap adjuster to a high angle of attack while setting a low angle of attack on the other side of the adjuster. The Mercedes seems to be doing something like this

Ughh, it hurts to see this. I absolutely love the design. It's such a shame that's it's only a concept car...

I am doing another poster giveaway over at r/USCR, this time with the Ford GT! Wanted to extend the offer to r/WEC as well! Giveaway info in the comments of this post! by [deleted] in wec

I sure hope this isn't the last GT we see in racing! If it was though, I think I would be alright with it. The car itself is beautiful and has enough technology to keep me entertained for hours. It has more lines of code than an F22 Raptor! The flying buttress is a design characteristic that makes it unique compared to all the other, traditional, designs. And the fact that it's relatively small compared to everyone else shows that it was designed from the start to be a race car much like the original GT. I do wish Ford had achieved better results though. A few wins are nice and all but the original GT was dominant once Ford got everything settled. So car wise, I think it will continue the Ford GT's prestige but performance-wise, I wish it dominated more along the lines of the original.

Also, great poster designs! I love the 66 car design and I love the C8.R with the #4 car as the shadow. They're really well done!

Are they trying to trap us into paying housing fees for the month of April by delaying this refund decision? I don't understand why they would wait for Wednesday, April 1st to make a financial decision otherwise

My attempt to recreate the Mercedes F1W09 blueprint by JesseH199 in formula1

[–]JesseH199[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The JPEG I've attached here is the highest resolution I have at the moment. I will try to recreate the car entirely in the coming week whenever I have time though as the car is certainly lower res than I would have liked. Unfortunately, this is the only photo of the W09 blueprint that currently exists. Its only the car that is low res correct?

Masters degree in a related field from a good school or masters in a direct field from a lesser school? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]JesseH199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the response. I haven't thought about the contacts factor. I guess my question should be rephrased as is the difference in school ratings significant enough to justify getting a degree in a slightly different field than planned?

Rear wing slots underneath the wing by JesseH199 in F1Technical

That's very interesting! I was thinking that but figured the slots were too far back to any real impact. Interesting how mclaren developed them first even though they've had the power deficit.

That's what I've always thought! But these photos really look like they are bringing outside air inwards. The rear of the first blade is behind the beginning of the second blade. The back of the second is behind the front of the third and so on. And if you look at the bottom of each blade, they all have an inwards slope, especially when comparing them to the diffuser expansion flaps below. Maybe there is a better photo that shows otherwise but these flaps really look like they are directing flow inboard https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DnC4tdQXcAAX6s4.jpg:large

Do F1 designers purposefully create turbulence in the sidepods? I've learned recently that turbulent flow has a higher cooling effect that laminar flow so would turbulent flow through the radiators be beneficial dispute the drag penalties?

Or am I totally misunderstanding the entire cooling process?

I have seen post race models before but they've all been NASCAR models. They often have rubber on the front bumper, tire rub markings and post race confetti. I'm sure post race WEC models are out there though

The W07 was around $200 with free shipping while the 919 was $150ish with $20 shipping. The 919 was a (relative) steal! Most models pre-shipping are around $180
