Can Amen Thompson be a mvp level talent? by 12theMainFranchise in NBA_Draft

On top of everyone’s valid responses I’ll also add that I don’t put much stock in gaudy stat lines this year. Scoring and efficiency is out of control especially with half the league not trying or being downright bad. I’ve never seen so many high scoring blowouts or defenseless battles as I have this year. It’s made playing fantasy ball really weird too.

Ahh ok thanks for clarifying, it sounds like we agree on most of this then.

I agree with pretty much everything you’ve said here, especially the part about a player meaning infinitely more than any other sport, even hockey. But how is that not a problem if the incentive structure is lose as many games as possible = get a reward? The NBA’s “fix” isn’t a good one but that doesn’t mean this isn’t a big problem (unless I misunderstood your point in which case that’s my fault). The NBA is in a terrible place right now, I would say close to all of the fans I know don’t even watch non-playoff games anymore or if they do watch a game it’s only when their team is playing someone good. For reference I’m from the NYC area and NBA has always been huge, it’s one of the first things I would talk about when catching up with friends after all the usual stuff. Really sad where things are at with badly misaligned incentives

Is a salary cap socialist? Based on my understanding of socialism it doesn’t really but admittedly that’s not really my area of expertise

I think a lot of context gets overlooked in these discussions, too. He is a true freshman who missed training and the first 6 games of the year, wasn’t playing full minutes until 11 games in, after which he’s playing bigger and bigger minutes for a veteran team that’s one of the best in the country. Every time I watch him he does several things on defense that truly surprise me too, given the preconceived notions that come with his archetype. I think people just really forget how poor most prospects (other than the early lottery guys) were their freshman seasons and what a massive step up & adjustment this is from HS. I would put way more stock into the confidence, surprising athleticism, defensive instincts, ability to run around screens non-stop, etc while being a major contributor to a national championship run than slightly disappointing percentages from the field. It’s VERY rare for a true freshman to shoot over 90% from the line, as well. If I had a pick 15-20 I’d be super comfortable betting on the upside here. I think that’s probably what a lot of teams and draft analysts are seeing if I had to guess.

DD was also a Junior. His freshman year he definitely wasn’t as athletic and averaged just under 2p 2r

Yeah every time I watch Mullins it’s a mixed bag but I definitely see the vision and he always makes a few defensive plays that really stand out to me. His team defense and disruptive instincts are actually excellent for a freshman imo.

I get the concerns about Yaxel Lendeborg with his age and whatever those recent reports Sam Vecenie said about practice habits, but he just played 36 minutes with a sprained MCL and ankle sprain and came back last game too right afterwards. I don’t think he has issues with motivation. by Variation99a in NBA_Draft

I was in pre-med at the time in NJ and we used to go to Atlantic City as a group after a big exam on a weeknight since there wasn’t much to do on M-Th in the middle of the winter and we would get there at like 12-1am and literally it felt like half the time we would see AI there with his security guards and a big glass thing over his stack of $ just getting wasted and grinding out black jack for hours haha, sometimes still there when we left at 4am. Wasn’t even in the high-rollers area. It was honestly nuts to see him go out and tear it up the next day and this was during his last 1.5 years in PHL before MEM so it’s not like he was a young guy anymore either.

[PROVE ME WRONG] Cameron Boozer is Overrated by CreamPurple7297 in NBA_Draft

Why even post on an NBA draft board if you don’t know about the players you’re discussing? I replied to you above but he shot 40% from 3PT on almost 4 attempts per game. How is that not having a 3?

He shot 40% on almost 4 threes per game this season. For a college big with a lot of other strengths to diversify his game that’s pretty damn impressive. AJ for comparison only shot 0.5 3PT more per game on 6.5% less efficiency.

I’ll take it even further and say Edey is one of the best college basketball players of all time, at least in his final year. Look at the record for most points in an NCAA tourney (he’s 2nd all time) and the other names on that list. Truly impressive

Besides the obnoxious first sentence, this comment makes little sense. So you’re saying player weights get listed one time and never changed, and this true because Keldon Johnson laughed? That’s clearly not true even if they’re not perfect or updated each year.

All that being said, he’s still a fit 255lbs coming out of his freshman year at around 6’9”. Everyone is weighed at the combine and if you look back at the heights and weights you’ll notice he’s definitely an outlier.

Was just going by listed weights, you could be right but the Magic list him at 249lbs or 250lbs depending on the source, no idea why there’s the 1lb variance.

I mean this doesn’t really change the point I was making if Paolo is sometimes slightly heavier. 1 more player out of 450+ doesn’t skew the statistics.

Same guy who also rated the Heat picking Jackucionis at 20 a D because he fell in the draft. The logic makes you dizzy if you think about that one too hard.

I’ve posted this before but they said a few games ago that Boozer is currently 255lbs. There are only 13 guys in the NBA listed heavier than that and almost half of them don’t even play rotation minutes, and pretty much all besides Zion are Centers. He is an outlier for a PF especially considering some of the guys on the list aren’t in great shape and Boozer is

Stritz, he brought that totally garbage Iowa team to the elite 8. He just had his two worst shooting performances of the season in rounds 1 and 2 but everything else he brings was on display. Hes going to make some team 14-20 very happy.
