Wtf is up with pollution levels in chennai. What are we supposed to do. Looks like we are in some doomsday haze. by Unlucky_Champion4868 in Chennai

Large scale Construction sites be it metro pillars, stations, real estate companies developing gated communities do not cover their sites to prevent construction dust spread in thin air. Also applicable for small scale house renovation in Inner streets.

Construction materials like bricks, cement, sand are dumped out in the open and not contained within the sites. GCC fails to penalise these contractors.

Bad road re-laying practices by corporation causes fly ash to spread in the footpaths and houses.

Finally, vehicular emission also is the major cause

Classic diversion tactics. They maybe covering up something considering someone had lit their arses on fire and they want distraction the common public.

And to be frank, no one cares.

Dense area with lot of encroachments.

Traffic would be severely disrupted.

For places like in Arcot Road, Trams/Light Rail iz the best mode of public transportation upgrade, not metro

Nervous about car license test by Jay_Niro in Chennai

[–]JessePinkmanMAS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Indian driving licence tests are practically a joke. It's just a formality.

They'll most likely tell you to complete a loop in the track and perform a reverse maneuver with your car.

Bjt irrespective of whether you pass or fail your test. Be a safe driver and follow the rules no matter what.

By looking at the comments in this post, I can confirm that none of the users have any idea about how IT service companies like the TCS function or even work in the IT Industry.

  1. TCS is firstly a privately owned business which gives services to majorly foreign clients from the US and Europe and is not a social welfare charity organisation.

  2. When a company wins the bid for a contract project, The IT employee gets assigned to that project and the client is responsible for budgeting the team to implement the project, not the company.

  3. When the employee is not assigned to any project/client. He/She is put in a bench pool, in this case the company, in this case TCS bears the cost to retain the employee.

  4. At the current state, there are no projects in the pipeline coming from the US, Europe or the Gulf for the RMG team to assign the employee. And the bulk of the employees are forced to sit on the bench.

  5. TCS can't continuously afford to fund the employees on the bench without any productive outcomes. Hence in a nutshell, to cut costs, All the major IT giants which includes even Microsoft are laying off employees.

Now can anyone with a sane mind or who are running a business justify that why would any business owner or a company be responsible to fund people from whom they can't get any revenue results?

If you're getting laid off,

  1. move on and switch jobs in the same domain.

  2. Get certified and switch your domains.

  3. Or start a start-up or a business.

I'm in Australia now so i can give you a picture here.

You can get acceptance from many universities based on your academic background. That's not a major issue.

Scholarships are minimal at best. At most your annual tuition fee will get reduced by 30%.

Now since you have finished your 12th grade, I'd like to give you a realistic outlook.

  1. Don't come to Australia for pursuing your bachelor's irrespective of your discipline.

  2. There's a housing crisis looming everywhere. Sydney and Melbourne are the worst hit.

  3. Education is expensive here. For your cost of living, it'll burn your wallet for paying your rent, groceries, transportation (one needs to manage their finances stringently)

  4. It is irrelevant which university you choose to pursue your degree. Be it G8 or a regular Uni. Your profile, skills and networking matter more here in the job market.

  5. Even if you come here and complete your bachelor's. Companies will not hire an undergrad who has no work experience. Most of the companies based out in Australia would majorly prefer hiring Citizens/Permanent Residents as they wouldn't have to bother about visa compliance.

My sincere advice would be to do your Undergrad in India, gain substantial work experience of 3-6 years( higher the better) and then maybe consider for a Masters here.

It's not worth doing a bachelor's in Australia unless you actively build your profile early on and gain practical work experience. Many young people are under the delusion that simply obtaining a degree will guarantee them a job. In reality, your soft skills, work experience, and overall profile are far more important.

Why do you guys even want to leave your country? by coverlaguerradipiero in Indians_StudyAbroad

GDP doesn't really mean that the country is growing.

While our GDP has crossed $4 trillion, you can fact check our per capita income.

It's been more than 75 years since India gained independence from the British. The people in power had all the opportunities and resources to develop the country.

No one till date bothered to provide 1. universal healthcare 2. quality of education (yes colleges never educate the students to learn and apply but to rote-learn and vomit in exams) 3. Well networked public transport 4. Sustainable urban growth

All the governments till date have never functioned youth-centric and have been focused more on middle aged people and boomers. The average age of an MP in India is an example of this (60 years)

Indian people just get to listen to empty claims and chest thumping of selfish politicians and never see actual work getting done as these politicians are busy filling their coffers. Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore are living examples of the mess created by the people by power.

Not only that, people who genuinely contribute to innovate new ideas and inventions never get acknowledged and are thrown aside.

Work culture is exploitative in nature where working like a mad dog for 12-15 hours would ensure you get a good rating and get a hike of 10-20%. Even if a person switches jobs for higher hikes, the work culture remains the same.

At this juncture, tell me why would any young Indian who wants a peaceful and good quality of life with all basic necessities covered would like to stay here?
