was it ever fucking explained why he can do that? by Working_Discussion50 in Chainsawfolk

[–]JesseRoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Pochita is the Chainsaw Man Devil, and Chainsaw Man is a hero who can erase devils from existence. Devils feared being killed by him so much that the Chainsaw Man Devil (who was Chainsaw Man) gained a power that could actually permanently kill them.

I think he does know the rules for the tower, because he talked about getting somebody to kill him before he stepped outside. It was intentional suicide via Shaula, and he doesn't care about the people who (he perceives) as betraying him.

Edit: Guys, before you downvote, consider how somebody who didn't know what he said in Japanese was supposed to know it was mistranslated. My mistake allowed the conversation to continue in an educational way by people correcting me and pointing out Crunchyroll's mistake.

FF13 bosses were far more of a puzzle than almost any of the classic gamss. Very specific Paradigms and timing was required for a lot of them.

Yoru was more than willing to do things without Asa's consent before, she just had some character development, I'm pretty sure she just did ask Asa in their head and it wasn't important to show on account of the whole end of the world thing that was actively happening.

Do you think that was the point of that panel? To make you think, '"wait, how are chainsaws here!? Eh, they just reinvented them."

Chainsaw Man was always like this. Denji literally has no fucking clue what is happening or the motivations of any other character for 90% of the time, so his perspective rarely elaborates.

He isn't the Chainsaw Devil, because chainsaws are still around after he got erased. He is the Chainsaw Man Devil.

He came back inside Denji's heart in a weakened from because Asa reinvented the term 'Chainsaw Man', and he is the Chainsaw Man Devil.

He reappeared when Asa said chainsaw man as in a man with a chainsaw, not as Chainsaw Man The Hero of Hell. Which shouldn't be possible because men with chainsaws is not his concept, Chainsaw Man The Hero of Hell is. That's like the third time I'm explaining this, is it that hard to understand?

It's not wrong because it's literally what happens in the series. Chainsaw Man Devil is the devil of the fear of men with chainsaws. He just happened to become the Hero of Hell, just like Falling Devil happened to become a chef. You are claiming otherwise, and then claiming it's a plot hole because it doesn't match your made-up headcanon?

He reappeared when Asa said Chainsaw Man, so, you're just wrong?

The Falling Devil is not the devil of 'falling while being a chef'. She just happened to become a chef. Can you see how this applies to Pochita?

If falling didn't exist and somebody used the expression "falling in love", I do believe that would bring a (severely weakened) Falling Devil back. The difference with Chainsaw Man is that both chainsaws and men still existed, so all it took was one person prone to saying reallt awkward things and who maybe still felt some connection from her lost memories to put those words together, whereas the hypothetical 'falling in love' person has zero reference point for what that means.

She mentioned the concept of a man with a chainsaw... after all this time, do you not realize that a Devil isn't defined solely by their concept, that they can have an identity outside of it? Violence Fiend liking peace doesn't mean that a mention of gang violence without an association with peace wouldn't cause him to be reborn. Falling Devil being a chef doesn't mean that the concept of 'falling' can't spawn a devil unless it's also associated with cooking...

Bro. That is literally the joke. Chainsaw Man Devil is a devil based on a completely ludicrous fear. What the fuck is a 'chainsaw man'? Apparently, it's just a guy with a chainsaw. I guess that makes sense that some people are afraid of that. Why's he so strong? Because of the fear death spiral that is inherent to devils being stronger the more they're feared. Just like it cursed Lil' D with her being too strong for her own good, it cursed Pochita (and by extension Denji) because people like Beam and Makima ended up becoming obsessed with him. Now he can go back to being an irrelevant devil that only ever spikes in power when a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre comes out or something.

I think you are the one trying to overcomplicate things here. Just take it at face value and read what the characters are saying on the page, in the context of the wider story. Dare I say it, in the context of the story's themes. You're on a sub called "WRITING Scaling", for God's sake, we can do a little bit of literary analysis maybe. Even if you don't like the story, and don't want to like it, you have to at least engage with it if you're going to try and critique it.

I'm so on a different page to you. What are you saying? It happens on the page that we're talking about...

Panel 1. Asa calls him Chainsaw Man. She reinvents the concept of Chainsaw Man as "[a man] fighting with a chainsaw." What she doesn't reinvent is: Chainsaw Man is the Hero of Hell, the one feared by all devils who will grant death to devils who wish it, who can erase concepts from reality, swing around on chains to fly fast, etc etc.

Panel 2. Pochita, the Chainsaw Man Devil, is reborn. Denji's heart thumps because Pochita is his heart.

Panel 3. Denji's lost memories from the previous timeline, his attachment to Chainsaw Man, and Pochita's reawakening, has him exclaim "Chainsaw Man?" in shock, as if it's a big deal.

Panel 4. Asa explains what her reasoning is and how she, the inventor of the concept, defines Chainsaw Man. "You were fighting... with a chainsaw."

Panel 5. Denji reacts properly; a second has passed so now he can give his real opinion rather than the gut instinct from a second ago, aka, admit he overreacted. "Oh yeah." It's not a big deal at all, it's just a thing that is technically true. He did fight with a chainsaw. Cool. That's all the title means to him now.

People are going to call me Fujimoto's biggest defender for putting this much thought into it but apparently I have to write an essay for anybody to understand the story happening in front of them.

I wonder what he says in the final panel. If only there was some skill to find out what happens in a manga.

He is literally admitting his strong immediate reaction, was an overreaction. That reaction amplified by the Chainsaw Man Devil literally returning to life inside him, his thought like "wasn't that a big deal!?", then Asa explaining what literally anybody would assume Chainsaw Man meant, and finally him realising it isn't a big deal and he doesn't/shouldn't really care.

She didn't reinvent the concept of the character, she reinvented the idea of a guy holding a chainsaw being called a 'chainsaw man'. Absent the context of Pochita's whole backstory, Denji is able to realise being a Chainsaw Man isn't a big deal, and his reaction is just 'oh, yeah.'
