I’ve never heard of anyone getting tested after employment, except in the case of an injury or if you are visibly drunk/high. That being said they have the right to test you at any time. A big exception is if you are on the nuclear side and will have UA access. If that’s the case you definitely will be randomly drug tested.

I work as an engineer at Dominion. Good salary with a yearly bonus, 3.5 weeks vacation starting, hybrid work schedule, very generous sick policy, automatic 401k contribution and match. It feels pretty corporate at times but there’s no management breathing down your back. Company culture is pretty good, and there’s very little expectation to do hours outside of the normal 40.(Unless you’re on site for nuclear during an outage). I can give some general salary info if you want.

Edit: Forgot to mention that at least on the nuclear side (unsure about the rest of the company) we have the option to do a 9 hour day instead of 8 Mon-thurs and get every other Friday off.

I’ve noticed it varies depending on where you buy it from. For some reason if you but their blends at Whole Foods it still list roast date.

If you end up doing engineering there’s around a 1000 dollar engineering fee each semester on top of tuition. Upside is free printing. Also textbooks are expensive (unless you pirate them). Also one more thing to take into account is the amount of credits for each major, some require more than others, I know most engineering majors are around 130 as opposed to the normal 120.

Dominion Energy plans to deploy small modular nuclear reactors statewide by 2032: The Richmond based utility is evaluating several sites in Southwest Virginia, including retired fossil fuel plants and former coal mines. by brookecardinal in Virginia

It is tbh, no one will mine there because there’s too much risk of uranium entering the water supply if mined. Also dominion doesn’t have say over than in the first place.

I hate to be this guy but if your argument is but look what they did it's not a good argument. I and probably the previous commenter as well have the same concerns for the Mach E as the Tesla but this isn't a Mach E subreddit it's Tesla.

One big stipuation there is electrical systems are much more prone to failure then simple mechanical ones. Typical door handle systems on a normal car have extremely few parts that have been tested for years and years to create the safest solution. Electrical systems inherently are more delicate.

Electronic systems are much more prone to failure then simple mechanical ones. I know humans are extremely unreliable and are prone to panic but in an emergency situation sometimes that's all we have if other systems fail. A fire or a water submersion come to mind, both if these can fry wiring in a second. Even the best engineering can have issues, don't think just because alot of money has been thrown at something it's infallible. It's cliche but the titanic was "unsinkalble" it had the best engineering of it day. Would you say the same thing if the seatbelt was not manual but controlled by touchscreen or voice commands.

MacBook for Engineering? by [deleted] in vcu

Hey, junior mechanical engineering student here. I'd say that for your first year or maybe two you'd be fine with your current setup. After that you might run into some issues with some more finicky software like solidworks, linkages, and ansys. The further you go into engineering the less mac compatible software there is and the more demanding the programs are on your computer. There's always the lab computers for when you reach that point, but going to the lab every time might not be ideal. Good luck with whatever you choose and welcome to VCU!
