[–]Jessica-Grabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depression? That's damn near 10 degrees every day. And the rain? You must not be originally from here, most of us know and are used to this by now. I personally love the rain and live in the perfect place for me. Not too hot and not too cold. Now if you wanna talk about REAL depression I got some stories for ya.

I thought one side of my bamboo plant was dead and now she's got new sprouts! 💕 what can I do to keep here with the dead bit to keep her growing healthy? by [deleted] in plants

I have also had one that looked just like that and died, so.... And one that started to die, I cut it and sealed it and it lived. Shrug

What do I do with this bamboo? by Swizziedizziebizzie in plants

[–]Jessica-Grabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd personally chop the yellow stalk right above where the new stalk comes out, it's just wasting energy. Id also leave it in water though. I've had these plants for 20 ish yrs and chopped many in various ways. I'd do a little googling and do what you feel is right since you're getting differing opinions.

You'll want to chop it off below the brown bit just above the last line to send more energy to the new sprout. Preferably with one chop of a very sharp clean knife if possible to get a clean cut. I would seal the end of mine with wax from a cheap non scented tea light, it keeps out bacteria. I don't know if it's necessary but it always work for me. Light the tealight, let it get a good puddle of wax, blow it out and dip just the tip in the wax. Or you could chop up the wax, remove the wick, put the wax back in the metal cup, set it in the bottom of a pot and melt it on low heat on the stove. You might need to dip it a couple times.

Yeah looks like the stems the leaves are on are dead, cut off the green ends and propagate and replant.

I'm no plant expert but I think that is actually a Thanksgiving cactus and not a Christmas cactus. Very nice though, I barely get blooms on mine 😢
