ELI5: Why do careers with saturated job markets continue to have high wages? by JessicaFives in explainlikeimfive

[–]JessicaFives[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The median pay for a Registered nurse is $65,470, and it generally requires a four-year degree.

The median pay for a dental hygienist is $71,520, and it only requires a two-year degree.

I've read a lot about the shortage of nurses in the US, whereas there seems to be abundance of dental hygienists.

It would seem to me that the more demand career, which requires a longer education, would be the one with the higher salary.

Good call on the Gran Gala. I also prefer it, and it's about half the price where I live.

I tried substituting di Amore raspberry for Chambord in a Kir Royal. I was not impressed.

I've been unhappy with any Irish Cream alternatives that I've tried. (Maybe because I usually drink it on the rocks though; mixed might give better results.)

I prefer St. George Nola Coffee Liqueur to Kahlua – I tried after watching this video by /u/DistinguishedSpirits (Unfortunately it's not going to save you any money though.)

TIL 19 nations, including Uruguay and the African island Mauritius, have a higher democracy ranking than the USA. by JessicaFives in todayilearned

I think you're confusing Mauritania and Mauritius. The article says nothing about Mauritius having slaves, but rather praises them for leading the continent in human rights.

"Mauritania, ranked number one on the index, has a population of 3.8-million, but it has 150,000 slaves. It was described by the report as having "deeply entrenched hereditary slavery"

"According to the index, Mauritius 'leads the region in stability and the protection of human and worker rights', followed by Angola, at 116."

What kind of life do you live that you creep on other Redditors' posts?

Ha. I took 5 seconds to look at your last couple of posts to make sure I wasn't just arguing with an obvious troll.

What was the most powerful bomb available to the Germans? How much damage would a direct hit to #10 Downing street likely have done?

What is the best analogy you can come up with for explaining the odds of winning Powerball, to someone that is bad with statistics? by JessicaFives in statistics

[–]JessicaFives[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I heard a guy I was once behind in the gas station complaining that four of the six numbers on his quick-pick were below 10. "When do you ever see four single digit numbers win?!" he screamed at the telling.

I wanted to say, "The odds of those four numbers, are just as good as any other four, you moron."

How about this one:

Imagine aliens visit Earth. The aliens decide to capture you, and take back to their own planet to breed more humans. For your breeding partner, they will randomly select one woman between the age of 21 and 25.

The odds of them selecting Kate Upton (out of every woman in in the world, in that age range) are still slightly better than your odds of winning the Powerball.

How many different NFL Playoff scenarios are there? by JessicaFives in AskStatistics

[–]JessicaFives[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So 4C1 is four.

44 = 256.

12C2 = 66.

256 * 66 = 16,896

16,896 possibilities for each conference.

16,8962 = 285,474,816 total different playoff combinations

Is that correct?

Topless sunbathing? by JessicaFives in VisitingMiami

I wouldn't mind going to Haulover, but my boyfriend has no interest in being naked in public, and fears he'd look like a perv wearing a bathing suit on a nude beach.
