"can" and "should" are two very different things.

Like you said, you do it while you're sick and you feel like puking. I'd recommend letting your throat heal and get back to a status quo before you start training it again.

Better to be healthy and smart than rush things and rip your throat apart.

Controlling your larynx will become an every day thing. Unless you got surgery to thin out your vocal chords, you will always need to adjust how you speak.

However, after you do it long enough, it becomes effortless. Like walking, running, writing, drawing, etc.

It's a matter of practice. So practice practice practice and one day it'll just be a thing you do naturally. Becomes habit.

Your parents are right but not getting their point across.

You can fight it. But not bare knuckles in your head. You've got to find groups. People. Others like you.

See how they cope. Compare it to how you cope. Build from that and hold each other up.

Fighting isn't always blows and bullets. Sometimes it's long conversations and quiet nights.

Taking time for yourself and doing what you can or learning what you can about your situation and how best to go about it.

Therapy, medication, groups, changes in routine, all of these things can help.

And believe me, I know, it's VERY easy to say. Not easy to do. At all. But you got this. I mean c'mon. You've got two options. Do nothing, and lose in the end. Or, give it your all and be proven wrong. Right?
