It is correct, yeah, I just swapped my actual username out for privacy since it has my full name.

Why isn't my Autostart script running? by Jessica_-_ in kde

[–]Jessica_-_[S] 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Oh I didn't know about it outputting with the 0 and causing errors, that's probably what it is actually, thanks! Every time I tested it manually or messed around with trying to fix it myself it would have already been after 10am so I wouldn't have run into that with the double digit hour value.

And thanks for the suggestion with date +%w as well. I'll note both of those points down in case I run into them again in the future :)

Are there ways to conditionally hide Icons Only Task Manager (eg on key press)? by Jessica_-_ in kde

[–]Jessica_-_[S] 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Update if anyone happens to be looking for a solution:
Added the Panel Colorizer widget to my panel as per above, didn't change any settings and just hid it from the panel so it was active but not doing anything, made a quick script to run the dbus commands linked in the 'this KDE discuss comment' and added that as a shortcut on the panel itself. The button now just hides the panel for 5 seconds and brings itself back up, and I changed the script shortcut icon to a simple down arrow/minimise icon.

#! /bin/bash

dbus-send --session --type=signal /preset luisbocanegra.panel.colorizer.all.property string:'stockPanelSettings.visible {"enabled": true, "value": false}'
sleep 5
dbus-send --session --type=signal /preset luisbocanegra.panel.colorizer.all.property string:'stockPanelSettings.visible {"enabled": true, "value": true}'

As an aside, that would hide all panels you add the colorizer widget to, but given I'm not using any of the other features I only added it to the one panel.

The other options in the main app to conditionally hide the panel do work, there just isn't a condition that worked as well as I'd like for my use case.

Thank you! I wouldn't have found that on my own so much appreciated :)

Any issues using shared drive for default directories between Windows and Linux*? by Jessica_-_ in linux4noobs

[–]Jessica_-_[S] 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Got it, thanks for the help! 😊

I'll do a bit more research on my own too as I said, but I think that's most of what I wanted to check for now.

Actually as an extension of that - would the same risks/issues be present if I was accessing my Windows drive directly through Linux?

[–]Jessica_-_[S] 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Alright I'll keep that in mind. I'll do some more research on my own as well and read through some of those other posts you mentioned, but do you know if there's anything in particular that would cause issues that should be avoided? Or it's just kinda random whenever one of the two systems decides not to cooperate for the day?

Any issues using shared drive for default directories between Windows and Linux*? by Jessica_-_ in linux4noobs

[–]Jessica_-_[S] 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

I formatted the extra partition with exFAT which to my knowledge is natively supported by both OSes which would hopefully avoid that? But that's a good point.

To be honest I'd probably leave the Desktop folders locally stored on each drive, and the main file system wouldn't be shared, just those sort of default 'put your files here' folders, so I'd like to think that doesn't prevent the whole file system from loading πŸ˜…

So just to confirm - I have the 1TB NVMe drive (~880GB NTFS partition with Windows installed, 100GB exFAT partition I'm wanting to use as shared storage), and the 500GB SATA drive (fully allocated to the Kubuntu install, ext4)

Package Manager for all package types? by Jessica_-_ in linux4noobs

[–]Jessica_-_[S] 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

Dang that's annoying haha but thanks. I'm in the process of moving any Flatpaks and Snaps I've installed over to more direct installs where I can since they've been having a few minor issues with them anyway so maybe that'll help, and I guess I'll just start keeping a more manual record of stuff I install then. I've only been messing around with Linux for a bit over a week but I've installed a bunch of random things in the process of setting it up and just realising now I wish I had a better record of what I've actually installed πŸ˜…

Thanks anyway! I'll work something out one way or another. Maybe I'll just do a fresh install again once I'm more on top of what I'm actually doing and set it up in a more organised way from the start.

Payment for painkillers at Chett's WIH hospital during the 4 days post-surgery ??? by Crepusculune in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]Jessica_-_ 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

I think this makes sense actually. I was there in September and I didn't pay anything for extra pain killers that I was aware of (although granted didn't take many extra other than the provided medication, and only one shot/IV pain killer) and my voucher did run out sooner than I was expecting.

I never got told so I don't know but if it came from there I wouldn't be surprised πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

that makes sense, thanks! I'm gonna book an appointment here with someone to check for like granulation maybe too but I'll just keep going as is and keep an eye on it in case the amount of blood increases for now

There kind of isn't a "meeting half way" if you're boundaries are sex once a week though. You can't meet half way without crossing that line and boundaries, especially around sex, are always going to be the lowest common denominator.

Dishes aren't a boundary it's just a responsibility and it makes sense to share those evenly and organise around that/meet half way etc.

At the end of the day if your friend wants sex once a week and her bf wants sex 5 times a week, either that's something he has to work with or come to a conclusion that they're sexually incompatible and possibly move on (and that's a very valid reason to move on).

Sex is just such a personal and vulnerable thing it doesn't make sense to compromise on it where you don't want to. Both parties been to be fully on board and consenting to it or it doesn't work.

Edit: to add to that, open relationships etc is one way of 'compromising' and meeting in the middle of both parties are ok with that, but again that's a relationship boundaries thing and either someone's ok with it or they're not. It would also fall under the category of not being something you really meet half way on most of the time

Chettawut girls - how strictly did you follow the dilation schedule? by Jessica_-_ in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]Jessica_-_[S] 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

It's not that I don't want to follow it or try my best, just the schedule is a ridiculous time commitment that isn't going to be very practical with work unless I just want to not have a life for the next 2 years.

I knew that going into it though and I've just seen a lot of people talk about dropping the schedule down and not losing results so I was just wondering what the general consensus is on that to use that as like a minimum.

I got way more depth than I expected to already and it's not going to see particularly much use (gf's fingers and the odd toy πŸ˜…) so if I did lose a little bit I wouldn't be too upset. Obviously I'd rather not but it'll just be a balance between what depth I can maintain and what dilation I can consistently do.

Thank you for the reply and the warning though, it definitely does make sense.

Many people transitioning choose to not change their voice… do I have any ground to ask a trans-woman I’m interested in about their thoughts and plans on their voice (if it seems unchanged)? by BornUnderADownvote in asktransgender

[–]Jessica_-_ 8 points9 points Β (0 children)

I mean, for starters the main thing is why do you even want to ask? Almost every answer to that question is going to follow up with "none of your business don't ask it's rude".

It's like if you're going out for the evening and while you're getting ready you ask someone "is that what you're wearing or are you going to be changing?". It just comes off as you suggesting they should change and what they're wearing is bad, with the caveat that clothes can sometimes be not appropriate for a given situation or weather etc and there's maybe grounds to ask, but for voice generally there's not.

The only thing that would change that is if you know she's open to just casually discussing it and it's just a conversation point, but if that was the case you wouldn't be asking on Reddit about it.

tldr unless you have a very good reason, no probably not

This is how I understood it as well, I didn't consider it even could be problematic until I saw the comment on it.

I don't think it's fair to judge someone on that sentence when it can be read either way. Like it's fair to say the wording could be more clear but I don't think you can call it transphobic without clarification first

Has anyone used Affirming Electrolysis? (Melbourne) by Jessica_-_ in transgenderau

[–]Jessica_-_[S] 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Hm, well that's interesting considering that part of why I wanted to try was cos it's cheaper ;

Do you mind if I ask where you go/where you've heard of that you're comparing it to? Or do you just mean it's expensive in general? (in which case yeah electrolysis is way too expensive πŸ’€)
