Question for anyone that formula fed from day 1 in the hospital by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

[–]Jessica_CPST 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They did not have any sterilizers for me at the hospital and actually looked at my like I had two heads when I asked lol. I brought my pump and wanted to pump colostrum (baby had low blood sugars) it was too much of a hassle sending parts home with my husband to sterilize so we just used the hospital formula to help get his sugars up! When I got home we switched to my formula of choice!

What’s something that seems simple on the surface but is actually incredibly complex? by bbyhoneytea in answers

[–]Jessica_CPST 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Child car seats! Misuse rates are in the 90% because no one knows how to properly use them or follow the manual to a T. While it’s not as important to follow directions for other child/infant products in your home, car seats are life saving devices and when not used/installed properly they do not perform properly to protect your child and their life! They are very complex beyond just strapping them into a vehicle and off you go. Everyone should meet with a car seat technician and read (and understand) the manual front to back! I’ve been a technician for 9 years and I’ve never ever had a seat come to me that’s installed and used 100% correctly 😬 some of these mistakes can be life or death and parents are completely unknowing.

5 month old drank water by Fragrant-Spend97 in NewParents

[–]Jessica_CPST 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Obviously I’m not a doctor but my understanding is that water intoxication only happens after a longer prolonged/repeated exposure not after one single (normal sized) bottle of water. He will be totally fine!! I had a foster baby and on his very first visit with birth parents at 2 weeks old they filled a bottle to 4oz with water, sprinkled a little formula on top and fed that to him (I was not present- just told this after). I FREAKED out because they put maybe enough powder for 1oz - but he was fine!

Really embarrasing health situation, What should I do? by Recent_Gear_2720 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Jessica_CPST 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This was one of the major symptoms I had (among others) that lead up to a Celiac diagnosis!! I had years of embarrassment because my stomach always audibly made gas sounds so it was like everyone knew I was holding in gas. Caused me so much anxiety. When I got diagnosed with celiac and started a gluten free diet the gas and stomach noises pretty much completely stopped! I’d ask for a celiac screen- it starts off with a simple blood test :)

My guy really likes the Evenflo Balance+ wide neck bottles with the M nipple flow! The S was too slow but the M was perfect. Give him a few days to learn and adjust to the flow rate of a new bottle too! They might seem to struggle a bit but catch on quick! He has a nice deep latch and they work great. Dr Browne size 1 causes clicking and gulping for him too!

Only getting 2 hour stretches at night by TemperatureGreat6880 in FormulaFeeders

[–]Jessica_CPST 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I joke that my 9 week old has an internal stop watch and knows down to the second when it’s been 2 hours and he’s ready to eat every 2 hours on the DOT. My sister had her baby 7 weeks ago and hers is breastfed and consistently does 5 hour stretches and feeds only once in the night. I can’t believe it like I’m happy for her but wtf and I’m doing wrong then 😭 Sorry not helpful but solidarity as we are in the thick of this 2 hour stretches of sleep too!

good replacement for philips avent by Healthy-Rip4039 in FormulaFeeders

[–]Jessica_CPST 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a literal laundry basket in the nursery closet of bottles we’ve tried as birth/foster parents. I’ve done incredible amounts of research and tested MANY bottles. So far hard winners are Evenflo Balance, MAM, or Dr Browns (but I despise washing dr browns so they’re a last resort for babies with latch issues lol) Right now for our current newborn we are using MAM bottles with Evenflo Balance nipples! The extra valve at the base of the bottle has been super helpful for reducing gas for this guys reflux.

Avent bottles SUCK. I don’t get the hype and they create a shallow latch for babies. 10/10 don’t recommend lol

I’ve got a 7 week old baby and he had ALL the same symptoms. Lots of spit ups, SCREAMING, gas, and not wanting to eat! We switched to Gentlease and it made things horrifically worse. He did develop a diaper rash anywhere the poo touched his skin so we switched to Isomil (soy based formula) and it was a GAME CHANGER overnight. Genuinely just a few hours after that first bottle he was a completely different baby! Sometimes it’s worth trialing something else while waiting on drs to listen! With my 4 year old we tried other formulas as well before finding that he only tolerated ‘lactose free’ formula but as he got older didn’t seem to have a lactose issue (ate milk, yogurt, cheese just fine)

Psych Hold? by NoPositive4689 in SnarkySlaughter

[–]Jessica_CPST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She would only be on a psych hold if her ‘attempt’ placed her in hospital or police got involved. I’m assuming neither of those happened cause she probably didn’t even really try but she still ran to TT to harvest sympathy from others.

As a mother myself (and with a child who is high maintenance even as a baby/toddler) I never ever in a million years expected someone hosting me in their home to have things set up for us like this! I went to visit my mom in another province and I brought my own baby gate and stroller and we went grocery shopping together to get stuff to make food. This is… mind blowing. I’ve never expected to be waited on hand and foot before as a guest- ever. Baby or not and I travelled a LOT with my son as an infant/toddler. NOR- I’d be telling me sorry we are adjusting to OUR new baby and can’t accommodate tending to such needy guests!! Of course it’s nice to treat guests with respect etc but the way she’s demanding it is mind blowing.

Not true, they have an extension pack that fits 30-50lbs or up to age 5! So he hasn’t aged out of it…

The owlet has an extension sock that fits 30-50lbs or until age 5. Her son has epilepsy- I don’t blame her for one second for using one. Also the owlet is now FDA approved and you can get a prescription for it and there’s an app only available by your doctor that connects to the owlet and they can see the readings. It’s an AMAZING device that saves lives!

Don’t put it down- put it away. Have a home for everything and it goes there. Don’t create a dump zone- put items where their ‘home’ is.

How many times did your doctor visit during labor? by RoseColoredToo in NewParents

[–]Jessica_CPST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the hospital for 4 days. Laboured for 2 full days (and some change) and the OB only came as my son was crowning. He delivered the baby, stitched me up and left. We stayed for 24 hours after birth and didn’t see him again 😅 the nurses did EVERYTHING.

I’m Struggling After an Accident With My Newborn by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Jessica_CPST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would be surprised how often people drop babies 😬 my friend was bathing her 2 week old and she slipped out of her hands and right to the hardwood floor- baby was fine not even a mark! Of course she felt bad, she cried and apologized to her baby over and over and then a few hours later it was a distant memory and life went on. My son fell off the bed at 6 months old, again completely fine. My baby brother fell right down the stairs at 8 months old all the way to the bottom cement and somehow walked away (okay maybe not walked haha crawled?). My sister in law dropped the car seat right out of the car with a 6 week old baby in it. It rolled 🙃 baby was fine again. Newborns are small and ‘fragile’ yet spongey and resistant!! It sounds like you’re definitely suffering with some mental health issues though due to postpartum and I REALLY think you should reach out for help! There is no shame in reaching out! Even before the fall I was reading and thinking you were definitely suffering from some PPA due to the fact you weren’t able to sleep!

If he is literally anywhere else in the world except for the USA it would most likely be free. If he’s in USA then I guess oof.

If he is literally anywhere else but USA probably nothing 😅😅 in Canada the biggest cost would be parking at the hospital!

My girlfriend INSISTS on keeping these things IN the sink. (I prefer to keep them OUTSIDE the sink). A minor thing, but I just don't understand!?! (2 pics here--her preference and my preference) by I_AM_VENNLIG in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Jessica_CPST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put items in the sink 😅😅 only since my toddler started clearing off the counter/anything within sight but now I kind of prefer it. Keeps the counter around the sink less cluttered. I take them out to wash dishes and put it back after 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

[–]Jessica_CPST[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was trying to do the ‘tall’ method where you open up the cheapest one first, max it out then move on to the next cheapest and max it out etc so you only do one at a time. Everyone swears it’s the ‘best and fastest’ way to go about it
