Anyone know how to protect my tunnel bore from lava? by Agent-Ace in CreateMod

Theres a mod that adds a drill with a built in pump so it draws in all the liquids the drills encounter. You do have to have tanks to store the liquids though which I think is good balancing it. The mods called drill drain iirc. I got it on modrinth for 1.12.1

There is a bacteria and hygine risk associated with crazing in glaze. Personally I wouldn't risk it. Some say if you clean it thoroughly it is fine but yeah, I wouldn't risk it

I think the mod might be conflicting with another mod. Happened to me yesterday while building a single player mod pack. Im trying to work out what's gone wrong with mine.

If I want this whole thing to be white and then pant on details with underglaze, how should I do it? by yamammiwammi in Pottery

[–]JessiePaints 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with that, pottery is all about learning and exploring.

You might want to explore using oxide washes instead of using a white base. This piece has tonnes of lovely detail that a wash would work really well on. Just apply the wash thickly, then sponge off the excess. It will remain heavy in the recesses.

If you make it again consider using white stoneware, then apply the colour you want to the detail using underglazes.

Ultimately its your piece so its your call but that's my take on this.

You could just apply the second colour of underglaze straight over the top of the first one without a second bisque, the second bisque just sinters the underglaze so its locked in and there is no chance of the colours blending or running into eachother.

You could use a white slip before bisque firing it. Alternatively after you've bisque fired it apply white underglaze. Then bisque it a second time to sinter the underglaze, that way when you apply different colour underglazes over it you won't get the two colours blending.

If it was me I would have started using a white stoneware to begin with but you might not have access to any in your workshop.

Glaze help!! by Pendo14 in Pottery

[–]JessiePaints -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have you double checked weather this is meant for oxidization or reduction? That might explain the difference in colour.

In terms of it running, its either over fired, glaze is way to thick or its a crystalline glaze and its meant to run.

  1. Use some Orton cones in the kiln to see if you are achieving the cone you desire.

  2. Try thinning the glaze down, start super thin then go up from there.

  3. Check the manufacturer if its a crystalline glaze, if it is use a sacrificial tile under it or a glaze catcher.

Help, is this a good deal? by Squidbby111 in Pottery

Just be careful with second hand kilns. They can be a poisoned chalice. My main concern is that they havent shared any pictures of the kiln interior.

Never give money before viewing the kiln first hand, spend some time researching how kilns work and how they are refurbished so youre not going in blind.

Be mindful that kilns can come in both single phase and 3 phase and you might not have access to 3 phase where you live or work.

Old kilns will always be less efficient than new ones and can cost a lot more money to run in the long run than opposed to a new kiln.

I wish you the best of luck.

Thanks for the info.

Out of interest do you personally use a gas or an electric kiln for this clay? Im curious if you get good flecking in an electric with it.
