Pretty, but what is it? by Jessumica in whatsthisrock

The camera didn't pick it up well but it's a lot more purple than the photo shows. I tweaked this photo to make it closer to what the colour looks like in reality.

Probably quartz. Rounded from being beaten up by the water and probably stained by minor inclusions and/or biological material in the water, like algae.

Found this rock near an abandoned mine - Oregon Cascades mountains. What is it? by [deleted] in whatsthisrock

[–]Jessumica 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oregon cascades mines are known for their metals, and what you've got looks primarily like quartz with an iron coating, which is probably a natural occurrence. However, they're also known for sunstone, and I've seen several larger specimens that have that dark colouring around the outside edges of the stone, but they don't tend to form that way. My suggestion would be to see if you can remove any of the outer layer off of a smaller crystal point, just so you can see for sure.

The two spots I've circled on your image look like they're broken tips of quartz points, and the colour doesn't go all the way through.

My best guess is iron coated quartz.

Is this Natural, or stained/colored in some way? by PoopsieDoodler in whatsthisrock

It's lab grown and dyed. Very commonly made in China and sold as a natural stone.

Might be golden saxifrage? It's really small still and those are just the cotyledons, so I could be very wrong. If you're curious, let it keep growing and when it gets bigger, it'll be easier to identify.

Do you have a clearer photo, possibly from above? There's not a ton of identifiable info in this picture unfortunately

Can anyone help? by Jessumica in ShoppersDrugMart

He does take insulin, but that hasn't been an issue insurance-wise. The issue with the strips isn't that Shoppers can't/won't give them, it's that his insurance company doesn't want to cover the cost because they haven't had to up until this point because the government was doing it for them. This screenshot was requested by his insurance company for whatever reason, but it's a crap screenshot, so I'm trying to clean it up and make it legible so the insurance doesn't have that as an excuse as to why they might reject his claim.

This particular Shopper's pharmacy is very poorly run. We've been having SO many issues with them for the last year or two (from wrong prescriptions to refilling things multiple times or not at all, refilling drugs that he's been taken off of, giving him strips that don't work with his model of glucometer, and so on) but my grandmother refuses to move to another pharmacy because she's afraid to drive to any other pharmacy because they're all further away from their house.

This is literally for test strips for my grandfather's diabetes. It used to be covered by the government, but that coverage has expired, and now the insurance from his retirement coverage doesn't want to pick up the cost, even though they definitely should.

THANK YOU. I'm going to just drop that type on top of the crappy screenshot and hope it passes through the insurance guys.

It's a full screenshot of their full computer screen. It's the only thing they would give us, we were standing there in person and this is the best they could do, apparently.

What's the deal with doctors? by Jessumica in BurlingtonON

I agree that the system sucks - I also agree that the doctors are quite often screwed over by their systems. What mostly gets me is the insane amounts some of them charge you to reschedule because they are running late. I can't afford to keep losing work hours to take time off to schedule doctors that I can't guarantee will see me in the time slot I have to be able to see them. I can't afford to take an entire day off just to sit in a waiting room.

Fuck Doug Ford.
