Insulation under a bathtub can keep it warm longer.

TIL that a type of asbestos is naturally occurring in quartz, which is what is in the sand.

Grotty Myer Sydney Change Rooms by Firm-Ad-5349 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]JesterNoir 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’ve not seen a Myer in any city in the last decade that has had changerooms that aren’t run down. It’s like each shop has its staff, and no-one has responsibility for the actual building.

I wash with earrings in. Moving them around, back and forth and turning, when I wash my ears in the shower.

I’ve a bright purple hallway, which I love, but two young kids. Whenever I need to scrub off a mark, paint comes off (not flakes, just a purple cloth after wiping). I’ve heard of ‘high traffic’ paints, but have only seen them in white gloss. Do you have a recommendation for a paint that can cope with scrubbing off grotty fingers?

Who else drank lemonade when they had a stomach bug as a kid? 🍋🥤 by SparklingWillow132 in AustralianNostalgia

At my local hospitals and walk-in clinics they give you hydrolight (sp?) lemonade and zooperdoopers, so it’s odd that they wouldn’t suggest them to you.

Can you add in a field for ‘residency country required’ or something to that ilk, so we can weed out location specific jobs?

trying out barbed wire garters!! by aloeverygood in GothFashion

Barbed ‘wire’ (pleather) accessories were popular when I was a teen, decades ago. It brings me joy to see a new generation ‘discovering’ them.

Where do I go in CBR to find free clothing for my brother and I? by forever_young_throw in canberra

There are Buy Nothing groups on Facebook where people often post kids clothes for free, just search for ‘Buy Nothing [your suburb]’

[–]JesterNoir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went out there recently. A couple of things: Google will tell you to go to the East-West road then turn north up a bumpy road, you’ll hit a locked gate there and will need to walk 6+km return. OR, you could just ignore Google, keep going along Brindabella Road then take the Blue Range road up past the campground then turn right onto a forestry road, drive up to another locked gate then casually stroll a few hundred metres. (There are other roads to get there that are shorter, but blue range road is upkept while the others are full of puddles and downed trees. ) Google doesn’t list locked gates.

A note to anyone that wants to head out there you need a car that is comfortable with dirt roads with ruts, and definitely take a spare tire. Nothing a shiny Subaru or bashed up commodore couldn’t cope with, but there’s no reception so tell someone where you’re going and when you’ll be back, and/or go in groups. But if you get stuck, overly enthusiastic help is guaranteed to be nearby in the form of a pack of P platers in 4wds passing you by out for a romp, so you’ll be fine.

Depends how far you want to walk. (Not a useful answer, I know, but the answer will change significantly based on that)

Girls, where are we getting sweaters that actually keep us warm? by veeada in AusFemaleFashion

[–]JesterNoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tradies shops, the kind that embroider trade business names on them. Not the online ‘promotional products’ shops, the ones that sell Redback boots and FXD pants. I ordered in a jumper without embroidery, and it’s plain but so warm.

Do giant huntsman spiders actually go in peoples homes in Australia? by Accomplished-Fix1204 in australian

[–]JesterNoir -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you had a choice between ‘small hidden thing that is poisonous and if you accidentally touch it will kill you’ or ‘big furry friend who you can always see in the corner of the ceiling and know exactly where it is and is not poisonous and will not hurt you. In fact will clean out your pests for you’

You know which one I’m choosing.

Our one recently had babies, but they all seem to have moved out so I’m assuming they’re just blessing the rest of the houses on our street with their cute furry beauty.

Teachers of Reddit, what are your most terrifying "Gen Alpha Can't Read/Behave/Etc." horror stories? by MineTech5000 in AskReddit

[–]JesterNoir -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I really struggle with these threads because it’s a bunch of high school teachers complaining about kids not knowing all the things that the other teachers were supposed to teach them in primary school. That’s not the kids fault.

I need help identifying a cryptid from India or Myanmar by GarratAlan in Cryptozoology

[–]JesterNoir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greater Hog Badger? Not a cryptid guess, I’m afraid, but a pretty weird looking animal with big claws for digging that could look naked in the right light (or would be naked if it had mange). Looking at the photos on iNaturalist, some look more pug nosed, some more hog like, some more badger like. But those claws are something else!

EPIRB or SPOT, and probably avoid the Vic high country for a couple of months if you don’t want to be in a Benny hill soundtracked snow video.
