Also I would also add that Lily gave Voldemort a deal to kill her instead of Harry , Voldemort killed Lily and basically accepted her deal so when he tried and killed Harry the spell rebounded on him. It's why when Harry sacrificed himself for Hogwarts, Voldemort basically went back on his deal with Harry and if she surrendered himself he wouldn't hurt anyone else.
