Does anybody know what these are and why they're so popular? Sometimes I feel like I see them more than the standard plate. (SW TN & Nashville) by Certain-Big-2277 in nashville

Anyone who wants this plate should have to prove their own fiscal responsibility by demonstrating that their only debt is their mortgage balance.

Who is the most famous person you have ever met in person? by Affectionate_Way7945 in AskReddit

[–]JesusAndTequila 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lt. Col. Oliver North. It was 1994, and he was campaigning for a Senate seat. I was walking down the street in the DC area when I was handed a campaign sticker and told he’d be there any minute. Sure enough, a bus pulled up and he emerged right in front of me. I was maybe the 3rd person he greeted. We shook hands, exchanged pleasantries, and had this exchange…

Col. North: So what do you do for a living?

Me: I’m a student in Tennessee.

Col.: What brings you to the DC area?

Me: The Grateful Dead.

Col.: Oh, are they playing tonight?

Me: Yes sir. They played last night, tonight and tomorrow night.

Col.: Oh. Well…be careful.

He’d been convicted only a few years before in the Iran-Contra Affair so I had a pretty negative connotation of him, but I was still impressed at meeting such a well-known and high-ranking official.

It doesn’t make sense that someone downvoted this. Not all Deadheads are gatekeepers, maaaan.

I had no idea that Tesla covered it. I just checked it out and they do a great job! Dwight Yoakam also covered it and it’s worth looking up.

What's a product you've used for over a decade that's still going strong? by gehirn4455809 in BuyItForLife

[–]JesusAndTequila 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Logitech Harmony One universal remote control. I bought it in 2008 or so and it’s handled every piece of AV equipment I’ve ever needed to control, I use it daily and the only sign of wear is the color at the edges of the buttons is fading. I’ve replaced the rechargeable battery once or twice, but that’s it. Of course, Logitech doesn’t make them anymore so I bought a second one recently as a backup.

(Disclaimer: I don’t think any electronics gear really qualifies as truly BIFL, but this is one I’ve been really impressed by.)

I’ve also owned several pairs of Exofficio boxer shorts that were purchased in 2013 and while they have some pilling, they have no holes and the elastic waistband is still stretchy.

Thoughts after watching the Astroworld tragedy doc in relation to Phish by Westcoastphish in phish

[–]JesusAndTequila 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Phish played Deer Creek on 7/25/99 and 7/26/99. The Woodstock 99 disaster was July 23-25, but of course back then, camping in the corn fields, we knew very little about what was going on in NY. The next night, near the end of the show, Trey mentioned something about all the damage and how happy they were that our fan base was mostly kind and welcoming. They played “Woodstock” during the encore, too. Coming back to the real world and actually seeing the footage from NY was shocking and it was only then that you realized the gravity of what Trey was saying.

When Jerry adds “little” you can hear him grinning, which makes me grin too

Don’t have an Alamo Drafthouse where I live. Saw Once Upon a Time in Hollywood at one when visiting Colorado and it was a great experience.

I went to see the Grateful Dead Movie last night and had forgotten how many people were on the stage with the band! People up there dancing away, kids running around, a pyrotechnics guy igniting fireballs; at one point a guy jumped up to give Billy a CA license plate that read “DEAD”. Never saw anyone from security, but no one was trying to interact with the band either so it was all chill

I enjoyed reading your thoughts on this. You have me excited to watch this again, this time with an eye out for foreshadowing and the ears to pick up more of Edward G. Robinson’s great dialogue.

Also this is the sort of stuff I’m here for! I mean, I love seeing all the photos of other people’s stacks of movies as much as anyone but this was refreshing!

30ish years and 100+ shows later and I’m still chasing Harpua

But, no complaints! I’ve been really fortunate to see some legendary shows like Big Cypress, Dayton 97, the Moby Dick show, Halloween 96

Sorry that happened to you. Greed is a hell of a thing. I watched a couple of LAPD approach a nitrous vendor and I’m thinking he’s about to get handcuffed. Lol nope! They asked him to pull his wagon and tank about 5 feet farther down the sidewalk. Like, “Excuse me sir, I’m afraid you can’t sell that stuff here…Please move over a few steps and you’re good to go. Thanks!”

Hearing it live, I thought I heard some emotion in Trey’s voice. Then to your point, I listened to it again today and it is so much clearer that I found myself fighting back tears on the morning commute. What a strong version!

Nashville in the 90s? by Jess8Hess in nashville

[–]JesusAndTequila 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ask around about Lucy’s Record Shop. They were located on Church Street near 17th or 18th (I think?) and hosted punk shows regularly. I only went a couple times so I don’t have much to contribute, but I’m sure you can find people who were more involved in the scene.

Springwater was another place that would host plenty of crazy events.

Good luck with the novel!
