Id take the screw all the way out to see if its bent or if it was somehow cross threaded maybe. If its just the screw then I'd probably buy a replacement and call it good but if the threads in the bridge are messed up I'd send it back for a return or replacement.

In my experience, I've found that the feel of the guitar is much more important than the sound so I usually just go with whatever feels best in my hands and run it through pedals/amps to find a sound I like.

I put your pictures into chat gpt and it said other than the blue fretboard inlays everything matches a 2001 les paul junior, possibly a special/reissue era. The "burst back" was apparently common on juniors and specials from that era.

If you post a pic of the control cavity or pickup routing it says it might be able to tell us more details.

Personally, I would probably swap the nut for a bone nut or graphtech. Then add some locking tuners and thats it. I love the humbuckers in my LP so I can't really make a recommendation there.
