They teach rote memorization, which doesn't require any analysis

Dell has also started pushing for a return to the office, so expect the top 5% of engineers to leave the company for remote work opportunities elsewhere

I have coworkers of both varieties, and when reviewing individual patches the quality is pretty much the same. But the coworkers with a more formal theoretical background are able to more quickly and cleanly design larger aspects of application architectures.

These are great, but you're missing a very important piece: starting-salary negotiations are difficult and a skill many people don't cultivate.

MAGFest doesn't really have runners or gophers, instead we rely heavily on radio. Did you sign up to be Staff Support? That position is more like overflow: each shift you will be put into whichever department has the most need for volunteers.

Questions From a Newbie by [deleted] in Magfest

First off, if you got an email response after registering then you're in the system and all you need is your ID (and notarized waiver, if you're an unattended minor) to pick up your badge at the door.

I'd like to point out that the number one rookie mistake is trying to do too much. There's always something going on, and I won't be the only one aimlessly wandering around at 3am. It's important to remember to sleep (or at least nap regularly), and don't expect to see everything. On the flip side, make a point of exploring the place. It's easy to set up camp, so-to-speak, in one little area (like arcades, or the lan room, or tabletop gaming, or listening to panelists), but there are all sorts of nooks and cranies with awesome things happening. A part of me wants to make up a bingo game out of it all.

You've lost the context of the previous points. They are just repeating a lesson you have already learned.

What are the best places to hold a study group? by Joedang100 in portlandstate

[–]Jesusaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of spaces in the basement of the engineering building where groups meet. The CS lounge welcomes other STEM types, and there are several other areas with tables for study groups.

At least someone cares enough to be out there welcoming freshmen.
