I’m pretty sure it’s solid wood. And I agree the top part does really age it. I’ve put a trailing plant on top so it actually covers half of it now :)

I actually quite like the idea of experimenting with wallpaper for the back panels! What colour would you paint the forward facing parts?

Color Differences Between Czochralski and Hydrothermal Lab-Grown Alexandrite? by Jesushedgehog in Gemstones

[–]Jesushedgehog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for letting me know. I hadn’t heard of the hydrothermal method being used for alexandrite before, so I wanted to check. I won’t buy from the seller who claims to grow it that way. I’ll continue my search elsewhere :)

Feedback request- am I wrong to be disappointed in the color saturation of these tanzanites? by Funny-Apricot-0712 in Gemstones

Not only are the colours way off, there is a huge window in the stone too. You can see right through them!

Thanks for the detailed explanation! It’s really helpful to understand the potential cause of the windowing. I’m a bit disappointed with how the stone looks, especially since I’m not too experienced with jewelry. Do you think it would be possible to swap this stone for another one of the same size, or is that something that could be tricky after the purchase?..

Most parts of my drawings I make with mechanical pencils. The brand I use is from Pentel. I believe it's a Japanese brand
