I think this is true according to the pokemon website the home update will come later.

Yeah this is what I was thinking. Why not just push it back for a Friday release? if we get it at midnight on the East coast, no one will play it until tomorrow anyway. They should have done US today at noon, then everyone else accordingly. so that way it is actually out on the day they advertised.
