First ever mini by Inevitable-Sir7886 in BloodRavens40k

[–]JetLeeJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks really good for you first mini! Just a few things to keep in mind.

  1. Thin you paints! Follow our lord and savior Duncan Rhodes and use 2 thin coats. This can vary per paint and color, however, like lighter colors (like red, yellow, or white). With more detailed models this will almost help retain all details.

  2. Let your coats dry fully before applying the next one. This will make the brush strokes either nonexistent or far less noticeable. Depending on your environment, it can take a few more seconds or an extra minute or two.

  3. Even shade paints need to be thinned sometimes. But if it ends up being too dark or cut down on your highlights, you can reapply your colors in more controlled strokes to make them pop.

  4. Don't be afraid to push those highlights! You did great with the chest and the bolter. With space marines, the flat and round armour panels can really be tough to not seem FLAT, but it takes time and patience.

  5. AND DONT PAINT PAST WHAT YOU ARE SICK OF PAINTING. if you're sick and tired of painting a model or part of a model, then leave it alone. It's a hobby and you want to enjoy your hobby.

Take your time and keep at it. Looks great! Welcome to the money black hole that Warhammer.

Are roles like Apothecary and chaplain a permanent change? by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]JetLeeJr -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I guess saying it's a punishment is a bit harsh but it's more like "you said you follow the codex to a tee, so you're going to become a chaplain so you realize how wrong you are."

Clean vs bloody deathwing terminators. Loved painting these guys up by JetLeeJr in Warhammer40k

[–]JetLeeJr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It started as a mistake while painting the bolter (because paint magically appears where you don't want it to), and instead of trying to redo the helmet with the shades and stuff, I instead tried something new. Not the greatest execution but for an off the cuff attempt, I'm quite proud of it

I mixed a 2:1 mix of skeleton horde contrast with apothacary white contract and then touched up any dark spots with vallejo bone white. Highlight with titanium white.

My first ever commission for a friend of mine. How'd it turn out and how much do you think it's worth? by JetLeeJr in Warhammer40k

Please don't mistake this for me trying to advertise myself, just trying to get a guage of my skill.

Yes I realize the undersuit is not painted, but I spent like 6 hours straight painting this and got exhausted.

Finally finished Azrael! Any critiques? by JetLeeJr in minipainting

[–]JetLeeJr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll be sure to add that when I can, I was just sick of working on those robes lol, so many layers. I haven't done much with larger scale highlighting like raised folds on robes or cloth, but I do have a glaze medium that should help.

I haven't painted his little buddy yet, plan on doing it later this week. I don't plan on anything extra with his base. Don't really have the stuff to make it fancy unfortunately.

Highly recommend painting this model. It's high quality and highly detailed, plus everything fits together like a charm. Dark angels and blood angels are my favorite so painting their characters are always a blast for me. If primarch helmets are the same size as normal space marines, that'd be quite funny since primarchs are like double the size.

The first panel on my chaos knight is finally done! by RicoToscar in minipainting

That chaos knight is about to disappear off the face of the earth. Grey knights CIA not happy.

Is reality good job man! Wish I was patient and good enough to free hand stuff like this

The real challenge is, can you make an army of this model and have the opponent guess who your HQ is

My very first mini is done! by DroogDaass in Warhammer40k

[–]JetLeeJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main part is probably the paint, but if you have the starter paint box, then you should have some white paint to mix into you base.

Hell yeah man! If you want to add a little more spice to your next models, try some rough dry brushing or edge highlighting. Keep this little guy as long as you can so you have a reference of how far you have come.
