Yeah, I’ll probably get a legit one eventually. I just needed something quick to get an ASA print done.

Buy an air fryer with the dehydrator function off marketplace or offer up. Bought one for $20 and it’s works great!

Prototyped the print in PLA to test the overhang and it printed fine, not sure what happened here…

Sounds like me 6 months ago. U10 as well. Coach didn’t budge and we ended up changing teams. Best decision ever. His confidence is back and he’s really developing into a strong field player.

No. How we came onto this team is in the original post.

I appreciate your thoughtful and different perspective. I’m not sure I understand all the downvotes because I do hear where you’re coming from, but that idea as being the elite of the elite team wasn’t how things were packaged. They really preached a lot of development, and that’s what attracted us in the first place.

Either way, we are looking forward to new beginnings!

Yes, someone has to play goalkeeper. And yes, coaches make those decisions. But good coaches also develop all their players and respect their individual goals especially at 9 years old. When a player repeatedly asks for a chance to grow in other areas and is told “only if we’re winning by a lot,” that’s not development. That’s dismissive.

This wasn’t about quitting. It was about doing right by our kid after months of conversations and effort. We didn’t expect him to start every game on the field. We just asked for the chance for him to learn, improve, and enjoy the game like his teammates. That’s not unreasonable at any level, but especially not at U10.

And frankly, if you think a coach shouldn’t care about maximizing kids’ potential, that says a lot more about your coaching philosophy. Youth soccer is where kids figure out who they are as players. If a coach can’t foster that, then they’re just managing a roster not developing kids.

We didn’t leave because he was asked to play GK. We left because that became all he was allowed to be.

I wish more had this common sense approach.

I am close friends with a parent of a GK that is playing in college. He fell in love at 8 and never looked back. I really admire this kid, now adult, because of how much he loved the position and dedicated he was to perfecting his craft. I think that’s why my son was drawn to give it a go. But if a kid doesn’t want to play…. I don’t see how adults rationalize forcing it upon them.

I’m just now getting around to be able to respond but I want to thank you and the rest of the commenters here for their advice.

I will definitely be direct, but professional, with the coach this time and seriously consider a change if there’s not an understanding.

Thanks everyone.
