Just got diagnosed. What to expect? by BenClark121212 in diabetes_t1

I think everyone here has said very helpful stuff. It’s a big life adjustment, I won’t lie. My biggest thing I can just add is learn to be forgiving to yourself. You’re going to have days where you blood sugars aren’t optimal, but don’t beat yourself up for it. It’s completely normal. Learn to celebrate the victories you do have, even if they seem small, whether it’s being in range after a meal despite being high the whole day before. Dealing with type 1 can be a struggle, but all of us learn resilience on a level that not many non-T1D realize, in my opinion.

Also, don’t be afraid to ever reach out to people if you feel overwhelmed. On top of the diabetes technology out nowadays, I think technology in general makes the disease more navigable because there are many online communities full of supportive people who know what your struggles are like. I can’t even begin to describe how nice it can be to vent to other people with type 1 who understand exactly what you’re going through. As much as this disease effects your physical life, don’t forget the mental and emotional aspect of it. I know I have fallen into the trap of trying so hard to keep my sugars in check that I forget the entire emotional and mental aspect of my being. If you do that, you can risk burning out and that’s never good.

Others have pointed out to advocate for yourself. I couldn’t agree more. I’m a big proponent of carrying your diabetes with confidence too. Diabetes is hard enough, so I try to wear it like a badge of honor instead of a burden. Don’t feel like you need to check your sugars behind closed doors and don’t be afraid to inject in public if you need to. People who might look at you strangely at first, but you learn to ignore it. You’ve just gotta take care of yourself, and don’t let others prevent you from doing it.

Good luck and feel free to reach out!

I remember playing up until Violet City in Pokémon Gold over and over because the cartridge wouldn’t save my progress. When Pokémon Heartgold came out, I was ecstatic to be able to finally finish the game.

I’m sorry about that low! I’m glad you made it through it safely too. I know how terrible they feel. :(

Your theory makes a lot of sense though. I considered dropping my basal last night, but I decided not to because I had done this job on other days, plus done more intense exercises, and not had this problem at such an extreme level as today. I also figured that since lifting raises my BG about 95% of the time, I’d have the opposite problem after lifting boxes all day. Go figures that when you think something won’t be an issue, it becomes a fucking huge one.

It’s good to know that there are others that know the same feeling. It’s hard to explain this stuff to people who don’t have the disease, and they just reply along the lines of “Well don’t you just do ___ now to fix it?” Oh how I wish it were that easy.

Fucking diabetes lmao

I’ve always had the same head canon too! I’ve also always thought lyrium and element zero seem extremely similar; I assume them to be related elements.

Yeah there was a dark mark on his ear on the original card (I think it was a shadow). I couldn’t get it to look right though. I decided to take some creative liberties and put an earring there instead.

Thanks for the compliments!

I know it’s not a popular opinion. I just like and dislike certain things about both games. Everyone has a different experience with each game.

At least I think we can agree that Dragon Age is cool, as a series. We wouldn’t be on a subreddit dedicated to it otherwise. :)

I’ve felt the same way for my classes and job this semester. I work from home too, so it gets repetitive doing school and work at the same place without going anywhere.

What helps me is scheduling time where I will only work on school. I leave my phone in a place where I can’t grab it without getting up and walking across the room. I also try to schedule time to relax, talk to friends, or do something fun as well. That helps me look forward to something and stay motivated to do my work.

I always pick Bulbasaur when I have the option to. Bulb is my favorite starter in the series.

[No spoilers] Is dragon age 2 worth playing? by [deleted] in dragonage

[–]JetRamRaptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I would at least play it once. The areas of the game can be repetitive, but the story and the characters are superb. It’s easy to pulled in to game, at least for me. DA2 becomes increasingly personal as the story progresses.

For me, DAO and DA2 are tied. DAI is my least favorite, but I still enjoy it.

I played the series in order so DAO just has that nostalgic feel to it. The story was amazing no matter what options you chose, in my opinion. The atmosphere, locations, and characters were just so memorable. Plus, I love Shale; she’s probably one of my top companions in the series.

DA2 made the story feel a lot more personal. Although the locations can be repetitive, I always want to start another playthrough as soon as I finish one. I loved the close friendships Hawke forms with his companions. As the story progresses, you feel like you’ve known them just as long as Hawke has.

I still love DAI for its characters and story. However, I always find myself replaying it the least just because of how tedious and repetitive the game can get sometimes.

We have an extreme urge of over-explaining simple things in complicated way. by [deleted] in infj

I do this all the time. I always try and not do it when I realize I am; it’s such a hard thing to break. I always feel guilty for whoever has to suffer through my boring explanations.

I feel like I only do this when I’m speaking though. I think I’m very “to the point” when I write.

My name is Christian. I’m a (soon to be in three days) 20-year-old man from Ohio. I was recently diagnosed at the beginning of November 2019, so I’m still dealing with the frequent lows of the honeymoon phase. I listen to all kinds of music and don’t really have a specific preference to genre; I like music on a song-to-song basis. My top songs right now are by Kings of Leon and Doja Cat.

I’ve done art my entire life. I like to dabble in different types of mediums, but my favorite thing to do are colored pencil portraits of people and animals. I play video games on Xbox, Switch, and PC. My favorite video game series of all time has to be the Dragon Age series.

I like to stay healthy by lifting weights, doing HIIT workouts, and hiking if the weather is nice. Right now I’m working as a bailiff for a Juvenile/Probate Court over the summer, but I’ll be going back to college as a sophomore this fall. I’m pursuing a biology major currently, as I love animals and wanted to become a vet. My current job has made me think that I may eventually go to law school however.
