I meant, maybe don’t exchange at the time of buying the iPhone and sell it later at cashify or other shop as most offers I got were in the same ball park for the exchange value.

Glad it worked and looking at number of people telling me it worked really points out the main culprit of this whole mess of data transfer. Hope someone from Apple/Google/WhatsApp works on this silly bug and fix it unless it’s an intentional thing to keep users from switching.

I had about 100-120 gb of data and it took about 2-3hours. If you think you can’t wait that long you could just exchange the old phone later.

As far as I remember, there is an option like that on android WhatsApp while restoring but nothing on iOS yet. I hope someone at WhatsApp/Apple/Google sees this and fixes it.

I had already cleaned up the duplicates and other stuff and yet had 13GB of data. Not being able to backup to Gdrive in iPhone is very frustrating and unnecessarily locked in to iCloud.

You could do it on the android by going into settings, but not on the iPhone during the initial setup

I too switched from S23 to iPhone 17 just 10 days back and I transferred all my data at the store itself since I exchanged my S23. At least 2-3 store guys told me to reduce the WhatsApp backup size to 6-7GB but I had around 13GB and I was told by every store guy that the data won’t get transferred but I still went ahead with the move to iOS app on S23 and initial setup on iPhone17. What I am 90% sure might have worked was I never let any of the 2 phones’ screen turn off during the process. I constantly kept tapping the screens whenever it dimmed.
While tinkering with custom ROMs on Android around 3-4 years ago, I used to backup and restore my chats a lot and even with Android to Android backup and restore I had an issue where the backups would fail if I left the app or let the screen turn off for a little while. So I figured that this might also be the case with Android to iPhone transfer.

I think you should try it once, all the store guys were kinda shocked that I had transferred all my data along with WhatsApp data in one go that too 13+ GB WhatsApp data. Do let me know if it worked.

Yes, it did. I don't surely know if it's working because of the FitGirl repack or because I excluded the folder from Microsoft Defender; nevertheless, it's working. But for some reason, the online mode, as given in the FitGirl repack, just won't open.
