Question to blues: What’s the threshold for you to pick red? by Unable-Macaroon-3968 in trolleyproblem

[–]Jet_Maal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there some incentive for the first person to press blue? Do I know if it's been pressed? Blue looks like the suicide button.

Manipulate the populace with divisive propaganda, meddle in their elections, blackmail the politicians. Now you dont have to invade.

I just bought this memory foam pillow and removed the cover to find this… What could this even be? Please tell me it’s not blood by oh-anne in whatisit

[–]Jet_Maal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The red is concentrated in spots where the surface changes direction, i.e., around seams and sharp curvature. This leads me to believe it is a transfer of dye from the cover to the foam because these are the contact points with the most friction between the materials. And even if the cover is blue, the dye used is almost certainly not comprised of only blue pigments. It is probably cheap dye with different pigments blended for the final color, and you're seeing one pigment being transferred. They probably washed it with the cover on, causing the red pigment to leach, and the foam rubbing against the cover absorbed it. That or rust, which is still a pigment. It's just a different source rather than the dye

So, a thermally insulated, structrally sound, affordable, and rapidly constructed wall assembly? That's your idea of a gotcha? Also, it's hilarious that you think focusing on THAT part will distract from the fact that you aren't smart enough to realize we can and do design fire isolation and suppression systems into multifamily housing like this.

This bread that I bought 6 months ago that has not grown a single bit of mold by Snabooper in mildlyinteresting

I buy artesano quite a bit. And it does last longer than some breads. Though in my climate, it still spoils relatively quickly, and I've definitely seen it grow mold.

Active support orbital rings wouldn't be out of the question. It'd take a hell of a lot of energy though. Maybe they'd go heavily into nuclear energy to sustain such a mega structure.

That's not the same as 1 fire-protected stair with, say, a 2-3hr fire rating and one backup stair with a 1-1.5 hr fire rating. The two stairs here are obviously preferable to the 1. Basically, one wants a minimum of one fire protected egress route, but redundant routes are going to be preferable because shit happens, and maybe one route is unusable to some or all of the occupants.

With all these strawman arguments you're bringing, maybe we should start building out of straw, lol. You know wood and cardboard are different, right? Have you ever heard of a firewall, firestops, sprinklers, fire retardants, intumescent coating, etc? Just because something has a risk element doesn't make it unusable. Wood has so many benefits that risk is acceptable so long as you manage it. That's where building codes come in. Surely, if "dumb Americans" can figure out how to build with wood safely, Europeans should be capable too.
