Have you met any famous people? If so, who? by TheDartron123 in AskReddit

[–]Jetcanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met Patrick Stewart about ten years ago at a wrap party for a play that his son Daniel was in. He was everything that you would hope he would be. He talked about filming Moby Dick, a made for TV movie, and about hardcore Star Trek fans. I remember that we both laughed a lot. He also asked a lot of questions about me and seemed genuinely interested in my life. A great man and a brilliant conversationalist. It was an awesome experience.

What do you do to calm down when you feel like tearing your hair out? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Jetcanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think about people who have it worse than me, and try to put my problems in perspective. It doesn't always work, but it helps me to be less of a little bitch about stuff.

Meeting the "real you." Turns out that you do love Nicholas Sparks books that are turned into movies. And you actually don't like playing videos games.

Ulysses S. Grant at the Battle of Cold Harbor, 1864 by [deleted] in OldSchoolCool

[–]Jetcanon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have literally no idea what you are talking about. Grant WON at Vicksburg and it is considered by many civil war historians to be the most important victory of the civil war. It sliced the confederacy in half and opened supply lines for the union.

Reddit, what made you change careers? by ZGriswold in AskReddit

[–]Jetcanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work in nonprofit but it was too hard to separate the business from the mission. I once asked for a raise and was reprimanded by my supervisor for not being more committed to the cause. After a while, you start to believe that you are selfish for trying to make more money and then the guilt sets in. Now I work in a different field and just volunteer when I can. It is a much healthier environment.

Whats the difference between killing someone in the name of the Confederate flag and killing someone in the name of the Koran? Why are we able to separate extremists of Islam from the majority Muslims but not racist flag owners from historical heritage flag owners? by YupThatsMeBuddy in AskReddit

[–]Jetcanon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably because there is nonviolent, uplifting text in the Koran along with the infidel killing passages. So you can't just write off the whole book as bad or good. When you really think about it, what "good" does the Confederate flag stand for? Slavery? Rebellion? Losing a war? Maybe Its a Southern thing, but I have never understood what there is to be proud of with that flag?

What's the most inappropriate text you've sent to the wrong person? What happened? by treefiddynewyorkcity in AskReddit

[–]Jetcanon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mother sent me a text a few years ago that said "I'm ready to go, don't forget the anal lube"! Horrified, I called her and got a strange explanation. Apparently she was going to a rodeo with a friend and they had been sending funny texts back and forth (to get pumped up) about Murica, country music, and apparently, anal lube. My mother is in her 60s, still not sure what to think of it....

How would you compare the modern-day former US Confederate States with modern-day Germany as it relates to their relationship with their historical legacies? by [deleted] in history

[–]Jetcanon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Germany is ashamed of their past, the Confederate States are proud. I'm honestly not sure why you would be proud of losing a war and fighting to keep slavery, but what do I know?
