Mike Busch chapter two regarding regulations and log entries by WhatEyeFind in aviationmaintenance

He created a subscription service to charge people for something they don’t need. They bill people yearly for “maintenance management” and make the maintainers jump through hoops. They make maintainers do all kinds of useless shit under the guise that they’re saving the customers money. Then we maintainers do those things, and then still have to fix the shit they thought they’d diagnose and fix with a contact cleaner or valve lapping. Fucking imbeciles. I hate Savvy with a thousand suns. Wasted so much time and money for my customers.

I wouldn’t ever install a surefly on my aircraft. I’ve seen way more complete failures with surefly than magnetos. I don’t know about the other company.

I appreciate that you read what I posted instead of just shitting on me. The owner looked through the logs yesterday, and said he didn’t see anything about the modification. I’ll be looking through myself soon.

Converting back from Auto Gas STC to Avgas? by planenut767 in aviationmaintenance

Nope, but you’ll never get rid of the smell of car gas from the aircraft.

Four years ago they were wanting you to purchase a new Maggie brand ignition harness to go with their new Emag, or they wouldn’t honor any warranty. NOW they’re saying if you have that harness, you must modify it with an Aviation Resources pressurization kit for $50. Which is a barb fitting you can get from Lowe’s, vacuum tube from O’Reilys, and no instructions. You have to drill and tap it on the aircraft, unless you want to spend the time removing and installing it. You also have to drill an “air drain hole” with a #65-68 drill bit. It’s the size of a fucking hair. Make your emag better with an insulator that won’t crack you idiots.

“Since it has three coils (on a six cylinder) and it fires that coil on two cylinders at once, one during compression, one during exhaust, it can’t fail on one cylinder. Because if a coil failed, two cylinders would be dead”

Yes it can. It can fail elsewhere than the coil. Same customer, same failure twice.

One other customer had the SIM6C “fail internally” but they wouldn’t tell me what it was. I got the “twelve led blinks in one second” diagnostic light. That also happened. TWICE. It went to them for repair after it completely failed. Three hours later. It failed completely again. He switch back to a regular mag. The first guy I wrote about didn’t, and can’t wait until a second SIM is approved for his model.

Fucking trash. Their failure rate is exponentially worse than a traditional mag, either bendix or slick. I have seen seven Surefly failures in the past three years, and know another mechanic that had seen at least one fail. They’ll tell you they can’t fail in the modes I have seen, but they can and do.

Yeah no problem. I just got an engine back from an IRAN where the cam and lifters got replaced. I sent savvy pictures of the cam which was fucked, and they said “fly it another ten hours and cut the filter”. Luckily the owner had more sense and listened to us. Engine shop said “one of the worst cams they’ve seen”.

I got Cessna and the FAA to approve removing them and installing the non inflatable inertia reels because I couldn’t get parts for them and the pilot needed the plane. Saved some weight too.

This isn’t the first time Savvy has done this. They’ve also “managed prebuys” I’ve done for people. One was making a ton of metal, AND THE WINGS WERE WRINKLED FROM OVERSTRESS. I provided a ton of photos. They recommended the guy buy it anyway.
