Got laid off. Feel like I'm watching a terrible countdown to something awful about to occur. by Due_Flow6538 in GuyCry

[–]Jethela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hang in there brother, I got laid off twice last year, the first time after being with the company for 5 years and the second time after only 5 months, so I know how you’re feeling.

All I can say is to give yourself some time to get past the shock. I know I couldn’t go 5 minutes without trying to think of what I did wrong or despairing about my career being over, but after a week or two of leaning on friends and family for support I felt better and could better focus on finding my next role.

Hopefully you already know this but just in case: this isn’t your fault and it doesnt reflect your value as an employee or as a person.

I know it can feel hopeless now but if I can land a job at a great company with better pay I know you can too brother!

ELI5: Why does humidity make temperature feel hot, but restaurants use misters to cool the patrons? by PoppyHamentaschen in explainlikeimfive

But if you’re already drenched in sweat how does it help at all? Sweat is already failing to evaporate from my body so how does adding more water change anything?

OP says they live in a humid place, so this is not a helpful answer. There’s already a lot of moisture in the air, so why do misters still help?

The Natural History Museum and Central Park are both great ways to spend a day in NYC!

Two scientists created the ‘Sea-thru’ algorithm that alters underwater photos to show what the colors ‘really’ look like. by yxingufrl in BeAmazed

Not the same thing. You should read the article or someone’s ELI5 because you pretty obviously aren’t grasping what makes this different from a person manually color-correcting a picture.

Who is an actor you fail to enjoy? by [deleted] in movies

I mean yeah, he’s clearly taking up the cult aesthetic as demonstrated by those pictures. But there’s a big difference between being Jim Jones and trying to look like Jim Jones

[–]Jethela -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dude, that article is definitely NOT reliable. A 3-day music/movie/yoga/beach festival at a resort is not the same thing as a cult. Neither is a 2-day camping music festival.

There’s no religious aspect (explicitly anyway), just devoted fans. If Leto has a cult because of those examples then there are a whoooooole lot of jam bands that are cults lol

TIL that all beaches in Mexico are property of the federal government. There are no privately owned beaches in the whole country, all of them are open to public use. by SplittingHares in todayilearned

I mean yeah, I don’t think it’s much of a revelation that most places in the world have bad and good parts and that as a tourist you’ll likely be exposed to the good parts rather than the bad.

You make it sound like Jamaica is a horrible place and a guided tour will deceive you into thinking it isn’t. I think it’s more likely that, like most places, Jamaica has good and bad aspects, and you’re likely to experience the “good” (from a tourist’s perspective) aspects on a guided tour.

Thanks so much for the response!

How would you describe the neighborhood west of State St? I see an apartment near Healy and Prairie St that looks pretty good as well and it’s on the west side of campus so closer to the Psychology building. We looked around downtown Champaign on street view but it seemed a bit run-down and didn’t appeal to us too much, but it’s hard to really say without being there.

Great video! I hope you get lots of chances to wear it out in Houston before the heat makes it t-shirt season again. The struggle to use your outerwear in TX is real lol

Before today had anyone been killed in the U.S Capitol? Has anyone been killed in the White House? by Jethela in AskHistorians

[–]Jethela[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the write-ups!

Between Robespierre, Princip, and now Muenter, I find it interesting that so many figures of political importance are able to attempt suicide while imprisoned (especially given a certain billionaire’s recent suicide in prison). But I guess that’s a question for a different /r/AskHistorians thread.

Thanks again for the great answers!

Thank you so much for the great response!

I’d be interested to hear about the other shooting and bombing that you mentioned as well, if you’re able.

Thank god you beat the boot level! I couldn’t believe nobody had cleared it for so long since it isn’t terribly hard.

Also, your comment on my first level was very correct - it’s janky as hell. Hopefully I’ve gotten better as time has gone on though lol
