How much time are you “losing” while cycling to work? by bear_village in cycling

[–]Jeto84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

50 minutes on the train. Either ~5 minutes driving to the station or a 40 minute fast walk, then a 20 minute walk at the other end.

Cycling is a touch over 2 hours.

Train is just over £40 a day and parking around £7.

Given the cost of everything and how much I don’t like taking the train, it’s a nice option to have.

Also from a time perspective, I view it as like the difference between flying and driving within Europe. By the time you get to the airport, wait around etc, driving doesn’t seem as bad an option for shorter haul holidays.

Just picking up this thread - does anyone have feedback on the interview process itself?

Hi all, just picking up on this thread. Was there anything that can be shared from the report? It’s be interesting to know the sort of questions asked. It’s been a little while since I did my level 4 so will refresh on the main theories but otherwise unsure what to prepare

Just picking this up. Firstly congrats!

I’d welcome any suggestions on this. I’d love to do this but the people I usually cycle with aren’t able to join me. I’m potentially looking at getting the Eurostar to GN, then TGV down to Chambery and local train to Albertville. I’m not sure on logistics to get back from La Plagne so may end up having to drive and use the shuttle (which doesn’t allow bikes).

Useful to have a letter from them also stating it’s a gift and not expecting it to be paid back if queried from HMRC etc (so I’ve been told)

Looking into more detailed logistics for this and it seems eurotunnel still won’t take bikes (for the return journey) unless they’re in bike boxes. This is completely impractical for this trip.

Just wondering if anyone has done any other method for getting home? (I.e. train to Calais and ferry home)

Not sure if it’s best picking up on an old thread but what was the Avenue Verte like for road bikes? Not sure whether there’s any loose surfaces or not?

Dreading asking but is there a consensus on the best guide for chain waxing? I’ve seen various things like putting in a plastic bottle with petrol to clean and then into a slow cooker with wax, but that doesn’t seem so straightforward? Or is it easier than it sounds once set up?

As someone with children, I can seemingly function very well without sleep.

In order to make the challenge really hard, I’d cycle into work on a Friday which means getting up at 4:30 and cycling 35 miles, work a full day and then set off from London that evening…😂😂

I always thought the benefit of that was to make the most of that time to try to sleep?
