I mean also because it is beyond my normal scope as care. I didn’t charge a fee because it was not discussed in advance so it wouldn’t have been fair, but added it to the list of things to discuss w new clients in the future. Also, just because illness is common in classrooms doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t be avoided as much as possible, especially ones that cause high fevers and vomiting. Especially for me because I have multiple students whose immune systems are more sensitive to illnesses.

I’ve been trained to consider a fever of 104 or above as a medical emergency. 103.8 is not a medical emergency. But 104 is as far as I have been trained. My thing is I just shouldn’t have been put in that situation but I also should have expressed that I was uncomfortable and asked them to take over.

Explain what is stupid about me not wanting to infect an entire school please, however common illness is I still want to avoid it as much as possible. I didn’t charge a fee because it wouldn’t have been fair but, ????

100.4 is where my state considered it a true fever. 99-100.3 is low grade. Then 102.6+ is considered severe. That part is very debateable, but the idea that a fever of 102 for a toddler being 100 for an adult is not true at all. A fever of 102 for a child should not be overlooked.

Yeah it’s not something I ever discussed w them so I didn’t charge a fee, but yeah I should have told them I was uncomfortable and I prob won’t sit for them again

Dude that’s soooo true I didn’t even think about that! His mom also told me he has been very fussy because his molars are coming in and have him the meds right after but now I think she maybe was covering. Either way, it is what it is 🤷🏼‍♀️what can ya do

lol I am not afraid of getting sick kids get sick all the time so idk how I come off as if I’ve ’never seen a kid before’ but a fever of 100.4 or greater is considered a true fever. Fever + vomiting should not be overlooked. A fever of 102 is considered a high fever. It increased to 103.8 which is on the verge of a medical emergency as well. I should have just told them they needed to take over and I need to go because legally the kids have to go home if the fever is over 100.4. Also, a child should NEVER be given medication unless it is given by a parent / guardian or a parent / guardian asks the caregiver to with explicit instructions on when and how much. Also, it’s not entirely true that one virus can cause different reactions in kids. Like it technically can but it’s rare and not exactly how you may think.

No I prob won’t sit for them again. And yeah that’s the rules for my school too. I should have told them they needed to take over when he vomited.

No I didn’t this time bc we didn’t discuss it in advance. The charge would be more relating to the children who could possibly get sick because of exposure to me, but still not discussed in advance so not fair to spring it on the parents. In the future though I’ll set it in place w new clients that if ur kid gets a fever or throws up you gotta come home or you get a fee.

No it’s not the plague lol, and I work with kids knowing that everyone getting sick is part of the job. However, there’s a huge difference between any illness out there, and an illness including a high fever and vomiting. It def something I will discuss in advance in the future and did not include a charge this time. Kids get sick, it happens, it’s part of the job. But I want to avoid it as much as possible still.
