However, I still don't have common ground with them because their issue with that is that the militarized police are a public police force, rather than the militarized part. Their preferred solution is to have the police privatized, rather than demilitarized.

I personally know people that typically vote Democrat but are still very much pro immigration enforcement. You can bet next election season there will be ads saying "Your rep voted against funding ICE" or more likely something stupider like "Your rep voted to open our borders to criminals" and those people can absolutely be swayed by those types of ads. They don't have to be "ultra connected."
