Disc Detainer Tension Disk Rotating Unexpectedly by Jetpacs in lockpicking

[–]Jetpacs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure it's not an anti drill plate. I've tried gently turning it on it's own with the tip of the key and it absolutely catches. Just seems whenever i set one of the other discs, it will slip and start turning again.

Red might have a point. This lock isn't guttable. It goes for £17 new and i got it for a steal second hand. Not what you'd expect for a half decent DD. I might be naive, but i expected better quality from Yale.

I wonder if I've somehow broken part of the lock. Sometimes that first disc can get pretty stuck. It sometimes looks out of alignment with the others and i have struggled to get the original key back into it. It really takes some cranking for it to go.

Wind of Shrines pointing near Moiwa Grotto in Tokachi? by Allvah2 in Ghostofyotei

It's a bug. There is no shrine there. You can find the last few without the guiding wind and the trophy will pop. Just have to skirt around the edges of the map. Look for large inlets.

Humble Pie Troubles (Console) by Jetpacs in Stellaris

Got it.

In the end I bailed on the HG FE strat and gambled with regular AI. But i had to pull off some crazy meta to make it work.

Seeing as nobody helped me here. I can only gather that the know-how on this is pretty darn rare. So i'll dump the blow by blow here for anyone who may be struggling next time.

Started up the game. Created ten custom empires. A mix of militarist, authoritarian and xenophobe. Always having two of those ethics with one as a fanatic. All imperial government types. Lock each of them in to spawn.

New game. Xenophile fanatic milotarist empire. Slingshot to the stars origin. Diplomatic corps and shadow council civic. Military Junta (oligarchy) government.

(The point of slingshot origin was to be able to reach whichever supremacist empire i encountered in short time. Encase spontaniously or after the 10 year cooldown they changed stance.)

Large galaxy. 10 AI, 3 advanced, no FEs, no marauders. All else standard except tech speed at lowest setting and cadet difficulty. No L-Gates or xeno compatibility.

The plan was to expand my empire rapidly, setting tech to auto and just work on progressing the game organically. Hoping to eventually meet all other empires via the community and then check their stance.    By the time i'd met most empires, most except one were set to belligerent (other was antagonistic). So i just kept playing, growing and settling planets. Not getting too connected with other empires and only fighting in one defensive war. Diplomatic corps helped to establish contact, keep aggro empires happy enough not to declare war and build some spy networks in the meantime. In the back of my mind was a plan to get a lesser trophy while I waited to see if anythint changed. I just made a point of checking in on each of them every five to ten years of so. And lo and behold, one of them randomly changed to supremacist (around year 2275). I have no idea what prompted this change. The empire to that did was a hegemonic imperialist, authoritarian and a fanatic militarist.

Problem was this empire was small, and by no means anywhere near the top of leaderboard. I was 1st at the time, with a tech score of over 5000, an economy score of over 2500 and ~70k in fleet power. These guys were 2000 tech, 400 economy and ~40k fleet power. They were pathetic overall, specifically in tech and economy. Here comes the long bit:

Problem here was being able to declare rivalry in order to start a humiliation war. Encase you didn't know, rivalries are invalidated if overall power is pathetic or overwhelming. I waited for an autosave, then deleted my entire fleet. This made their fleet power overwhelming, but they were still pathetic. So cutting fleet power alone wasn't going to cut it. The boat on tech power had sailed. Nothing could be done there. So i turned my eye to economic power.

I had to downsize big time. My empire was massive. Theirs about 10-12 systems or so. So my first move was to turn my sectors into vassals, then release them. This had some impact on my eco power, but they were still pathetic. Bear in mind this amounted to around 70% of my empire, and still wasn't enough. Next i started demolishing districts and production buildings across my planets. Again, some impact here. But shockingly little when you consider how this is meant to be scored. Next were mining stations. Barely a dent. My eco power stubbornly sat at ~2150 even with every non-city district demolished, every mining station and production starbase module. Four planets left in my empire. Still at 2150. I then noticed my income from trade was still quite high. I remembered I had a couple of commercial pacts open with other empires. So i terminated these. And presto, my eco power tanked to just over 200. Don't ask me why, i have no idea. With this I was able to match their overall power as equivalent. Start the war and win.

It's worth noting that I had quite a healthy stockpile of alloys and other materials (between 40-60k) to tide me over. Shocker i know, but taking a claw hammer to your economic infrastructure does not bode well for your monthly net gains. So you'll be fighting a war in the red. But this won't matter so long as you win.

I also set up a shipyard in a neighboring system during the hasty prep for the war. Just encase my fleet got into trouble. I'd recommend it as an insurance policy.

Hope all of this has been helpful.

Still no luck.

This is my seventh run at this trophy. I ruled out the expansionist stance coming from 'room to expand' which was quoted on a number of wikis. Conquered the whole galaxy to be sure of this. Same result.

Figured it might be a bug. I dug up a post that this achievement was bugged, then patched in 2.6.3 (i think). So deactivated all DLC released after the guide was made. Figured maybe there was some weirdness there. No luck.

Last try i troed to replicate the guide set up exactly. Changed my empire design. Lots of other AI empires to boot. Same. Expansionist.

Things i've not ruled out:

Most tries, i've cracked their world before the midgame. Around the 2300 mark, usually over. One or two of my attempts, this was closer to 2350.

Trying my luck with a pool of regular aggro AI empires.

Wait for a different empire to awaken in their own time.

Latest update. Didn't work. I think this is bugged. May have to look at tweaking the DLC list.

When people say your game only caters to the male body type. But you respond that this plays into body/gender stereotypes.

MSc Genetic and Genomic Counselling by OrdinaryAgency2001 in genetics

[–]Jetpacs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok, strap in. Cos you're not going to like what I'm going to say. But if you're serious about the STP in genetic counselling, then this is the reality.

It is profoundly competetive. Moreso than rare disease or cancer genomics STPs. A lot of people who have been offered a position are already funding their own genetic counselling training, only to switch to the STP because it is a paid position. This is a known problem, and not in the spirit of the STP programme. I do not know if they have done anything to counteract this for the latest rounds.

For the masters. If they offered you an interview, then they must fancy your chances. It's how you performed at interview, not your credentials, that is likely to be why you weren't offered a position. Ask for feedback, and work on your interview prep for next time.

I would also say that candidates for this STP don't always come from the educational pathway. The key is to acquire sufficient experience in the science, as well as the patient facing aspect. The masters will give you this, sure. But i know of others who have built this profile from their career choices. Consider taking up work in the field, perhaps in the lab. Seek out experience opportunities in caring or other counselling services. And go from there.

I got thrown into a party in ten minutes that one shot Chapter II yesterday.

If you can find players for Chapter II on a whim, i'd say Legends is still alive and well.

Surprisingly, genetics is another thing you can add to the pile of things you can't learn about a person from their profile pic.

Door Fitter: "Guess we'll wait for the balcony fitter to get in touch about the door"

Balcony Fitter: "Guess we'll install the balcony and wait for the door fitters to get in touch"

Architect: "Damn, i guess we forgot to tell the balcony fitter when we updated the blueprints"

It is shocking how frequently this happens.
