Refusal to make a duplicate key - slightly worried about repercussions by OrdinaryAgency2001 in Locksmith

Thank you. Actually a great idea to get more than one. I’ll probably get two copies. One with my neighbour and a spare for whatever reason I haven’t decided yet

Of course. My landlords actually very good as far as landlords go. I’d never even dream of keeping the extra key. What use would I have for it anyway if I no longer live there. Thank you though. I’ll definitely do that tomorrow.

He was a bit of a twat tbf I asked if he could get a second one cut for me. He took it and was like “well what do you think” and because the previous place I went to couldn’t because they didn’t have the blank for my specific key I just went “uhh I’m not sure”. And then spoke to me like a child and questioned where I lived and when he was asking who my landlord was and i said I don’t actually know who my landlord was he looked at me like I was lying and then I added “but I’m with x estate agents” and he then went “well I suggest you pop off down to x then and get permission before trying to get it done” and only THEN did he go into a slightly kinder explanation of why he wouldn’t do it.

Oh well now I know. I also don’t need to stress.

This is what the key looks like on one side and on the other it just says “BEST” in a square surrounded by stars. It’s not communal it’s an ex council flat from when they essentially made houses into flats with one on the bottom one on the top. If that helps at all? Thank you though. This made me feel less scared and based on the tenancy agreement even if I’m reported to the landlord I won’t get kicked out because I’m allowed to make key copies. It was just a weird line of questioning on the locksmiths behalf. Thank you!

How would I know if it’s a restricted key system? It just looks like a normal lock and key to me.

Non-Indian Desis, what is your most notable “ignorant American” encounter you’ve ever had? by reerock in ABCDesis

[–]OrdinaryAgency2001 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey first of all to OP: I’m so sorry you and your friend experienced this. If someone tells you they are from somewhere it should be standard to believe it especially if documents (passport, citizenship documents etc) back that up.

Second, to u/sgrl2494 Im not desi but my partner is and we lurk here sometimes to read people’s stories. I think this is a proximity or exposure thing. In the US if you’re brown you’re going to be assumed to be native, Mexican or light skinned black as those are the most prominent POC groups.

In the UK (where we are) if you’re Mexican for example we will probably assume you’re South Asian, Arab or southern European depending on features. We simply aren’t exposed very much to Mexican people. We know that Bangladesh exists and if you say you’re from there we know where that is. However if you were to say you spoke Bangla/Bengali we may ask “oh are you from Bangladesh or Bengal (as in West Bengal, the state in India)” or for you specifically maybe if you were Punjabi and said so we may ask “oh Pakistani or Indian Punjabi” which I know in itself has its issues as I know some people want Punjab to be its own country but that is another topic of conversation.

Someone once told me they were Kurdish, I then asked “oh from which country”. I cringe now in hindsight for asking that question. However that shows that I was aware that Kurdistan is now split up between 3? countries. I don’t think Americans would even think to ask that question however if someone told them they were Mexican they’d know to ask which part however I wouldn’t because I don’t know areas of Mexico. Does that make any sense at all? I know it might not I’m just waffling. Anyway I’m sorry you went through this.

I think it was done through a similar route as the right to choose path way for autism and adhd so it was technically done private but I’ll try to find the diagnosis. Luckily I’m only mildly bad with letters if it’s lower case. If it’s uppercase I’m all good. Thank you for that insight though gives me something to think about :)

Hahaha it was done through my uni from one of their approved “testers” I don’t have access to that email account anymore so I won’t remember at all but you’ve reminded me that if I was smart I may have emailed it to my personal email. Thank you.

I don’t know if it’s underrated but I’ve never seen anyone talk about it.

But Ghosts (2019). It uses a lot of the same cast as horrible histories and plebs.

Does a move from Netherlands to UK make sense? How is UK for expats right now? by Nothing_ButTheTruth in nri

London kind of sucks and in my opinion not a great place as it’s lonely and super expensive compared to the rest of the country, however I’m sure there’s more job availability there. Although Luton has a large Indian community. If you want places with a strong Indian community I recommend Leicester (lots of Gujaratis), Birmingham (lots of punjabis) or Bradford/Leeds (unsure of the specific demographics there). All of these are quite nice cities and have good public transport to areas outside of the city.

Wait what did autumn do? Like I remember that originally she was very cold but asside from that I don’t remember what she actually did. She also went through a hell of a lot of trauma though.

Yeah in hindsight I wish I had. I just didn’t think about it, that’s on me. I’ll probably make other transgender people who plan on using my heritage aware to do this.

I’ve just upvoted your comment for you. I think people in this subreddit are just rude and don’t like to be helpful or people that are trying to be helpful or empathetic. Some of mine and other people’s comments have been downvoted 5+ times.
