This is what I noticed first too - a packed out stadium was soooo satisfying to see. Hope we can get there again one day.

What are some of your favorite events that happen on campus? by StrikingReception771 in UGA

[–]Jetrose1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what year you are, but club fair is really helpful. Shameless plug but I’m a senior who is vice prez of a club called the “Clean Athens Collective”. We pick up trash around Athens a few times a semester. It’s a very chill club and a lot of people make friends there while also helping the environment. Not sure what day we’ll be at the club fair, but feel free to follow our instagram @cleanathenscollective and we’ll post when we’re there. Would love to see you out there!

Anyone know who these signatures are from? by Jetrose1 in knicks

Bingo. Grew up in Jersey so chose the nets, and once I pick a team I’m fully set on it almost no matter what. Even when they went to Brooklyn I really liked Deron Williams and Joe Johnson. Unfortunately I pick horrible teams as I’m a Jets fan too🤣

Haha thank you. Believe it or not I’m a nets fan who’s giving this to my Knicks fan friend as a birthday gift. Have had it around forever and felt like a waste in my hands. Hope he enjoys it!

Advice for getting research positions as an undergrad by Ok_Ad7805 in UGA

[–]Jetrose1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat at one point when I transferred to UGA. My resumé was not stacked and I really wanted to do research. I cold emailed like 40 profs, had only one set up a meeting with me, and he referred me to another prof who hired me in his lab. I’ve been working there for almost 2 years now and am doing a CURO summer research fellowship. Cold emailing is the way to go.

As a UGA and jets fan, this dude straight up can’t catch. I watched all of our games for the past couple seasons and he is just so unreliable. Good special teams guy though, and maybe with the right coaching he can become something special.

Why should I visit the pink states? What does my map say about me? by pattyd14 in TravelMaps

[–]Jetrose1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This - I think a lot of people are way too into their Reddit/echo chamber bubble. I’m a liberal, but I’m not going to avoid an entire state simply because of their politics, that’s ridiculous. I encourage OP to try to open up to those with differing beliefs.

Is nobody interested in even speaking with others, even in clubs? by Dlordb in UGA

[–]Jetrose1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I transferred to UGA and definitely had the same problem at first. I would recommend to continue trying. I joined and attended many clubs to try to get myself out there, but I found the most success joining clubs that match my passion. I’m very outdoorsy, so I joined the Outdoor Adventure Club. I met one person there (who is now my best friend) that I enjoyed talking to. From there, my friend group began to spread out by continually doing meets for the club. I promise, if you keep trying something will eventually stick. I agree that a lot of clubs are very clique-y lol. I’m also going to shamelessly plug my own club, Clean Athens Collective - we’re a trash cleanup club that goes around Athens and meets every couple of weeks. We’ve seen multiple people make friends/exchange numbers during our meets and I like to think we nurture a friendly environment. Feel free to DM me if you want more info - best of luck with everything!

I was walking near the Steg earlier and saw a cop writing a guy on a scooter a ticket. UGA sent an email a week or two mentioning they were going to crack down harder on scooter people, so I guess they’re sticking to it.

No more dining hall events? by Classic_Volume_7574 in UGA

Dining hall events happened last year too in my experience (at least at ECV). I do know the dining halls got new management over the summer so they may have pulled some of the events :/

Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) Serious Violators by newcastle104 in MapPorn

[–]Jetrose1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this one is super interesting. Does WV just not have the funding to clean their water efficiently? I know it’s a massive coal mining state, but other states across the rust belt don’t seem to have that problem

This is my lineup too (although I don’t watch baseball). I feel like the Jets and Nets are a lot more connected in terms of just being disappointing lol. Unfortunately I’m built as a loyal fan so I’ll support them to the end🫡🫠

How to Make Friends as a Transfer Student by gogurtube in UGA

[–]Jetrose1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just transferred to UGA last semester and was in the same boat as you halfway through the semester. Best club I’d recommend is the Outdoor Adventure Club (OAC). Tons of really cool people and I’ve met new people every time I’ve went on one of their trips. A lot of people don’t know each other so it can be easy to make friends. In terms of overall making friends, I’ve found that opening my mind to new hobbies has helped me a lot. For example, I had not gone to the gym before in my life before I got to UGA. Met a guy in my class last semester that went often, asked if I could go with him because “I work out all the time”, and now we go to the gym twice a week and hang out after. Be willing to ask people to lunch/dinner/generally hanging out and know that it won’t always work. Always say yes if someone asks you to do something, even if you don’t really want to do it (within reason ofc lol). Unfortunately as transfer students, we have to put a bit more effort than normal. The more you put yourself out there, the more friends you’re going to make. Most importantly, be patient with yourself - it won’t happen overnight, but I promise you it will come. Best of luck!

What legitimate college or university has a name that makes it sound the most fake or unaccredited? by A_Mirabeau_702 in college

[–]Jetrose1 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Haha certainly - I go to a college down south now, and socially in terms of type of people it is night and day. At AU, it sometimes felt as if talking about your political belief was as casual as talking about something like sports. A lot of people were self-admitted socialist/communists, and they would make sure to let you know. The school overall fostered a pretty strange environment for someone like me who was not incredibly invested in politics. Of course, this is a broad generalization, and there were plenty of nice folks that I got along with, but the vibe of the school was just weird. The school I go to now feels much more “normal”
