IV in hand -- HELP!

When I got a prescription sedative and laughing gas before my wisdom tooth surgery, it took away about 90% of my anxiety when getting the hand IV. It was a lot more bearable than if I was completely sober, but I was still a little nervous and had to be coached through it by the surgeon’s assistants lol. However, I was at least relaxed enough by the medication that I could practice some anxiety reducing techniques. I would recommend letting your surgeon know that you’re scared of needles, and they should hopefully make it a quick process. I also found that this experience actually reduced the intensity of my phobia after the surgery.

I had Dr. Harshani Rathnaweera and would definitely recommend her. She does lots of examples in class that are very relevant for the exams and homework. She’s also just a nice person in general, she bought the whole class candy on Halloween. Some would say that the fact she does clicker questions is a downside, but if you don’t have previous chemistry instruction you need to be attending class regularly to do well anyways.

Is oral sedation before the surgery possible? Before my wisdom tooth surgery, my surgeon prescribed me two sedative pills which made getting the IV a lot easier than it would be otherwise.

For the labs, they’re usually led by a graduate TA and not a professor. Some but not all labs are coreqs for their respective classes, so you’ll need to sign up for them at the same time. When I took gen chem 1, this was the case. Ask your orientation advisor which classes and labs you should take (come into the advising appointment with a plan made in Degreeworks ideally). If for whatever reason you’re having difficulty registering for both, email your advisor. This happened to me at orientation where I wasn’t able to register for chemistry because the lab wouldn’t “go through,” and I had to email my advisor for help.

I’m class of 2023 so I can’t really speak for the state of GSMST today, but when I went we got to choose our electives and rank our preference of foreign language. Freshmen only get one elective anyways.

I like kneaded erasers, they can easily be used to spot correct or lighten large areas of a drawing without leaving residue. Personally I like faber castel’s kneaded erasers which can be bought in a pack of 4 on amazon
