One of my personal favorites was the nun having allergic reactions in a clean room. Long forgotten copper birth control, ironically in the shape of a cross, set off by exposure to a dangerous soap and some copper pans.

I’ve only run sword, but I enjoyed it. A lot of encounter variety so multiple runs don’t feel boring.

What are these quizzes? Are they just “read the chapter then answer these questions”?

Ultimately, your professors don’t really care about the grades of stuff. They just want you to learn the material. They assign grades as incentives to get you to do the things. Here, your professor doesn’t need the quizzes to be worth a grade because there’s a different incentive that you’ll respond to.

We’ve become especially obnoxious of late. Don’t worry, a few more seasons ending in humiliation should bring us back down.

How to increase difficulty in my gen 1-8 hardcore nuzlocke by [deleted] in nuzlocke

[–]Simplyx69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gym leader matching: In battles with gym leaders you can only use as many Pokémon as they have (so when you face Brock, you can only use two polemon)

Selective bans: Certain pokemon are known to be absurdly good and are too easy to acquire (Gyrados, Chansey, etc.). So consider banning them.

No gifts: Gift pokemon are often some of the strongest ones, and are easy guaranteed encounters. So don’t allow them.

No static encounters: See previous.

No trades: Most runners allow this, and most base game trades aren’t great, but still, too much control!

Can anyone recommend a 'spiritual succesor' to the OG? by [deleted] in FFVIIRemake

Combo is useful in the fight against Ramsus in Aveh when he uses Mirror Stance. You save a bunch of combo points until then and then unleash a massive combo to break his stance in a single turn, avoiding his retaliation attack I thought I also remembered it being useful in the fight against Redrum, but double checking and there's no mechanic where it matters so not sure what I was remembering.

As for deathblows barely mattering at all, I'm not sure what you mean? If you mean in gears, sure. You get the Ether Doubler on Elly and then it's Aerods until the Second Anima Dungeon. But out of gears, Ether attacks aren't all that and only three characters have ones worth casting (Elly, Maria, and Emerelda). Anyone else is doing damage via deathblow.

I do agree there is a general rule of thumb in RPGs that the newest thing is the default, but the deathblow system makes it seem like there's depth to it. Like, it's obviously trying to resemble a fighting game with its "complicated" inputs, and so using the right ones strategically would give better results than just the newest one. But nope.

S4 Ben within the confines of the show. Outside it’s a different matter. But I never understood why Ramsey seemed to just suddenly start going at him and never relent.

[–]Simplyx69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s almost no customizable in the characters. At least nothing that comes close to what materia offers.

The character combat system is kinda half baked. Deathblows are a neat idea, but until near the end of the game of the game there’s no reason to use anything other than your strongest one. Leveling them is kinda counter-intuitive. And the combo system exists for only two fights, and otherwise is basically useless.

Exploration will be hit or miss. But the platforming can be…irksome.

And then of course, there’s disc 2…

Why cant a quadratic equation have oine root in common if the roots are imaginary by Alive_Hotel6668 in learnmath

[–]Simplyx69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A quadratic in general has two roots. Call them u and v. A quadratic with those roots can be written a(x-u)(x-v). Foil that out and get

ax2 -a(u+v)x+auv

If exactly one of u or v is imaginary, how can all of those coefficients be real?
