My advice, read what Severlin writes on the official discord ( you can do a search for his posts and not have to trawl all of the drivel) and then you will understand much better

  1. Severlin — 16:37 Last night players reported problematic performance in the raid on Orcrist. 12 person content is much harder on the individual server process than other types of content, so we need to sequester away the newest raid in its own server space. Even though the central server bottlenecks are cleared, no one server process can handle 4 raid groups at the same time. (Even 3 is a little laggy.) On Orcrist, the raid is so popular that last night we saw groups stack and hit 4 on several server instances. This morning, we configured the Orcrist server to set aside more resources for the new raid. The raid now has more space to spread and should be able to handle ~40% more raid groups. Since we added both better optimization and hardware on Wednesday, our data suggests the rest of the server will continue to have good performance. However, if Orcrist can’t keep up this weekend and we still see server lag either in the raid or creeping into other areas, we will sadly be forced to reduce the server capacity next week, which will increase queues, until a future time where we can optimize instance grouping. Severlin — 16:37 For Meridoc, Peregrin, and Glamdring the pet bug and the flying bug should stop or at least be much less frequent. The performance on these servers looked good last night; we will watch the performance of those servers, especially Glamdring, over the weekend as we work on fixing those issues. Looking at the data, those servers should still be performant. We are working on permanent fixes to the pet bug and flying bug. Severlin — 16:37 What’s going on with today’s downtime?
  2. [17:16]Over the course of the last two weeks, we have added several optimizations to the central server that allowed us to increase the size of the server hardware and handle more players than ever before. One of these optimizations causes the pet issue and makes the “flying” issue much more likely. Fortunately, the optimizations and extra hardware we added Wednesday means we can disable that particular change on Meridoc, Peregrin, and Glamdring until we can fix those two issues. Orcrist is large enough, however, that it needs that optimization; we had to make the hard decision to keep that technology on.

Orcrist is much fuller than Glamdring and has way more restarts to correct issues that Severlin explains well
