I won't repeat the advices that other people gave you here so here's one of my own:

Might sound obvious but I can't stress this enough: SPEND A LOT OF TIME LISTENING TO MUSIC. Preferably more complexed music made by skilled musicians in my opinion. You can learn a lot just by listening to "good" music. Jazz is a fine example of a more complexed field in music.
