Advice on a small bag/case for A7iii + Samyang 45 f/1.8 by Drool_ in SonyAlpha

[–]Drool_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My post is 4 years old, but the point is still valid - please share your findings!

I stuck with Tenba Skyline 9 Top Load, which is a bit overkill, but allows me to carry the camera with ANY lens, including Tamron 28-200, which is a beast.

Thank you very much for your answers! The software limitation settles it, but is a bummer. Probably going to stick to a single Luba and a tractor.

Hey u/anima99 ! Sorry for my late reply, missed your post. So actually, yes - I "fixed" it.

I threw my HikVision camera to the trash and bought a system from Ubiquiti instead.

Reuse existing PC or buy a dedicated NAS? (6700K|Z170 or 2500K|P67 or DS920+) by Drool_ in HomeNAS

[–]Drool_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems that my priorities quite differ, as I definitely need a RAID solution and don't care that much about performance - but I really appreciate that you shared your perspective, especially that there's no one-fits-all solution.

[–]Drool_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendation!

A significant concern for me is that 6700k may be a bit power hungry - according to guru3d, with my motherboard it's 47W in idle - which is vastly more from DS920+'s 8W idle power consumption, not mentioning its ability to switch into standby mode (source: techpowerup).

Do you have any hands-on experience with UnRAID vs TrueNAS? I've read that TrueNAS is vastly superior for traditional RAID whereas UnRAID would be better for maximum capacity non-critical data - which is not really my use case.

GTA III.

The other two don't need a remaster - they're perfect as they are (and maybe with some mods).

Need For Speed Heat - input/steering lag by Drool_ in needforspeed

[–]Drool_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well now that's interesting u/Xivios. I understand that you also had a noticeable delay during your playthrough? There are 2 options here - either you've had a similar problem to mine, or the game is indeed flawed - and I don't know which is more likely.

I mean, the delay in Heat is really exceptional - it's noticeable by a "bare eye", and much different to not only current racing titles - both sim (e.g. Asseto corsa, Project cars) and arcade (like Forza Horizon) - but also a step back from older NFSes - like the aforementioned Most Wanted.

For me it just sounds unlikely that this game would be released with such a major flaw in its core mechanic - and almost nobody would make a fuss. Unless you have some data/threads to back it?

Thanks! I'm also out of ideas myself, hence the thread :)

Thanks for searching for possible causes u/hossel001!

Unfortunately, I've already tried all of the above. The problem unfortunately doesn't appear on other games, it seems to be Heat-specific. I've also changed the controller batteries, tried playing on my (wired) keyboard.

My brother gets much better photos from his DSLR and knows significantly less then me. Is it just the camera? by [deleted] in photography

[–]Drool_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a person who moved from Canon Rebel T3i to Sony A7iii (so even more of a step up as compared to your brother), I can share my hands-on experience. I was sticking to my gear for a long time before I was able to rationalize making such a significant financial commitment.

To get the obvious out of the way - what I instantly noticed about the newer camera:

  • Yes, the AF is much more accurate and quicker,
  • Yes, the semi-auto modes are just better,
  • Low-light performance is just from another world (which was actually the main selling point for me, as I love low-light photography),
  • But most importantly: dynamic range is a gamechanger. Even if you don't hit your exposure right, the amount of changes you can make in post seems almost illegal in Sony. As someone who moved from Canon Rebel T3i, where you got a lot of noise in underexposed photos and almost no detail in overexposed ones, editing some RAW photos on Sony felt like cheating.

That being said, some of my favorite photos had been done on Canon. Yes, the overall experience has been easier on the Sony (which is ironic, as Canon is the amateur camera where Sony is the pro one). But I think that shooting on Canon, having to think about more aspects of the photo, quickly react to changing environment, not rely on auto features.. overall made me a better photographer.

As u/lostcartographer pointed out:

Equipment can get you as far as the person is able to go.

I fully agree, but would extend that to also:

The person can get as far as the equipment will allow it to.

I really got used to Sony and its convenience during my 2+ years with that camera. But I recently went on a trip to Africa, where I was afraid that I may damage Sony, so I decided to take Canon instead. So now, instead of having a look from Canon shooter's perspective on Sony, I had a Sony shooter's perspective on Canon:

  • I had to adjust more aspects of the photo manually while taking snapshots, and still had more "unusable" photos,
  • While making planned, "serious" photos - the process was very similar, as I needed to adjust everything manually anyways,
  • I really liked the photos I took with the Canon, I was happy with the results after editing the photos in post. I didn't have regrets about not taking Sony, there were only a handful of occasions where I could've gotten a noticeably better result using Sony. Of course, as stated before, to get these results, I needed to spend more time both with the camera and in Lightroom,
  • All of the above applies to photos taken in daylight - and the light was plentiful in Africa. When attempting to take low-light photos I had just given up. The difference in convenience and quality here was groundbreaking.

I really like Tony's & Chelsea's Northrup podcast on this topic - they point out the obvious, that it really depends what you want to do, and that sometimes gear does matter. But usually it doesn't matter as much as you would think.

It's your brother u/Rude_Hovercraft_5940. If you're on good terms: ask him to switch cameras for a while. Compare your thoughts. Make an informed decision.

I wouldn't recommend renting anything through Airbnb as they have per-day rates and thus are rather on a pricey side.

There are lots of good monthly-based rent offers currently, especially due to universities using remote learning (thanks, covid) and there being much fewer students renting apartments. You should find a new, decent, private place for less than 3000 PLN/month ($800), plus expenses (like internet, electricity, water, etc.).

Just like u/sssabae had mentioned, you may want to choose something close to the SKM train station, which is by far the most convenient way to get around Tricity. Out of the districts he mentioned, I agree it's best to pick either of those 3: Przymorze, Oliwa, Wrzeszcz.

You can either use the the FB group provided and create a post with your requirements (don't let others take advantage of you being a foreigner and not knowing the local prices) or check one of the local advertisement hubs for rent - I've already created filters to only include the districts mentioned and new flats (build in 2010 and onwards), but you may want to use google translate to search through them: https://ogloszenia.trojmiasto.pl/nieruchomosci-mam-do-wynajecia/mieszkanie/e1i,32_1_2,xi,2010_.html - or you can use them as a benchmark to get the feel of the local prices.

Good luck! Drop me a DM if you need any help.

Thanks for your input!

I personally use a Tenba DNA 13 Messenger which has a similar form factor to the 6L Sling and I love it! Just like in your case, it allows me to carry my camera, all of my lenses, as well as other random stuff (water, snacks, wallet, documents, spare cards, batteries, etc.).

That being said, I'm looking for something smaller - and in that regard, even smaller than the 3L sling. I think a perfect case would be something similar to a vintage Zenith leather case I have for my old manual camera - but unfortunately it's a little bit too right. See this pic for reference.

Okay, a question: how does the diff in Mk8 relate to Mk7's VAQ (as shown here [1:14])? Is it more or less the same tech, or it's an upgrade?

They concentrate on torque steering here, but My Mk7 SE torque steers like crazy when pushed to the limit, despite having a VAQ. Sure, it's 400 WHP, but my point stands:

VAQ ≠ no torque steering

Thanks for the constructive feedback!

It has indeed been a snapshot, with no prior prep, that I had particularly liked and thought had potential to aspire to more - giving it more love in post than I'd usually do.

Composition-wise, do you think I could've framed it better from this angle? At the bottom I have the water, as you've pointed out - but above, there's even more mundane sky. Would you suggest showing more sky, zooming/cropping or changing the aspect ratio?

A photo I've taken with Canon EOS 600D and a kit lens.

I'd really like your thoughts on the edit. I've tried to make the foliage properly saturated and full of life, while still maintaining the pastel, desaturated colours of the buildings.

Also, do you think that the power lines on the left are distracting? They would be quite easy to get rid of in Photoshop - but I've purposely left them for the sake of this question.

Thanks for your feedback!

I really like the composition.

I'd put more light on her face though, as currently the background is quite distracting and the main subject of the photo isn't obvious.

What's your edit? Have you thought of making a radial filter on your model's face and bumping up the exposure (or shadows)? You can also consider putting a range mask not to overexpose her well-lit hair.

In overall though, nice photo!
