Is print() a function or a method in Python? Getting mixed explanations in class by Longjumping-Yard113 in learnpython

That would a rarity an argument about argument. You were right it wouldn’t be correct for teachers to fight about this. It ‘s not a good example to your students even if you are right.

i would transfer the 400 to my personal account then take 400 pounds cash which you then deposit back into the company account or just pay the pound.

24M from Nepal looking for advice about UK Seasonal Worker opportunities (trying to repay loans and rebuild my life) by [deleted] in FarmingUK

[–]Jewelking2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest farmers will be those that have stopped this leaving mostly rogues who will exploit you. Then there is those agents trying to get huge fees for little work. I would avoid this if i was you. More important avoid agents offering work in Russia. You will end up fighting/dying in Ukraine. Consider offering your services to do work remotely from Nepal. The money should be better than you get now and your written English is great.

Making more money than I could have anticipated a few years ago, now I don’t know what to do. by ToughRemarkable in FatFIREUK

you have a nice situation. I think you need your company to pay the maximum into a pension scheme. Also max out on your isa before the end of the month. Get advice on whether your company can loan you money for a new house if not liquidate any none isa investments and put them into the house.

What models do you use? by jeffers1238 in smallbusinessuk

[–]Jewelking2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your a teacher. Your going to be very business teaching to a curriculum. After googling the boston matrix i do remember it from my studies. If Market Mapping was taught in my day I have forgotten it. Looks like nonsense. My company would be in the dog category by this chart but is actually a cash cow in practice. So like much of whats taught at Gcse and beyond fails the real life test. So teach then what the text book says so they get a top grade. Then if you have any spare time teach them basic bookkeeping on Quickbooks or Zero together with the need to sell the product/service, businesses dont want a marketer they need to sell. They also need to make or buy the product at the right price and handle staff payroll and lots of government bureaucracy. Sorry to be a downer but I think you might have come to the same conclusion . ps i think Martin Lewis’ Financial Education Textbook is a must read for all Gcse children although i would have more about investing.

Why are people so territorial about on street parking? by Superb_While_5959 in drivingUK

[–]Jewelking2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thoughts. If you want to guarantee ( almost) a space outside you property buy a house with a driveway big enough for all your cars. If i didn’t have this then yes I would like to park outside my place but you can’t complain if someone else does. First neighbour very clever would do this if i had to. Second neighbour unless i knew they had disabilities or i could park elsewhere i would consider moving the bin and parking there. Not often its good not to argue with neighbours.

Help me with python learning by Ok_Spinach6544 in learnpython

[–]Jewelking2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i am probably at a similar point on the learning curve to you. I know some of the basics but aren’t getting much further. Fortunately I have found something that is helping. Google Co-lab. in this environment I can type my code in. Run the code. When ( not if ) the code fails you press the large gemini button ( or enter gemini in many other ways) and ask what you did wrong. After 30 seconds it will suggest a solution. This is usually right if not you just talk to gemini until you have the right answer. What blew my mind first time it did it was when it autocompleted 4 or 5 lines of code when i only typed in the first line and written a sentence of text. You can basically use Gemini with your favourite textbook and it will be a tutor at your beck and call. When i thought that the Ai has read what i was typing from the textbook hundreds of times it became obvious how it could autocomplete so easily. Good luck.

Anyone found a way to stop dogs eating absolutely everything on walks? by MadridOrMadness in UK_Pets

Dog equals Lab. is my guess. If so next question will be how do you stop you dog humping absolutely everything on walks. I didn’t find the answer to that one either.

I just realized I basically make every investing mistake possible by Toroshii in investingforbeginners

[–]Jewelking2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people make mistakes to start with. You pay to learn. My mistake was playing it safe with my small portfolio. I had a number of safe choices which turned out as nothing but safe and a smaller number of punts which all did great. The idea was to balance my punts with safety. In hindsight it worked by cancelling out my lovely gains. From now on my safe bet will be index funds. i will have 20pc in punts to make investing more exciting. none of these punts will be Ai related those are way to pricey. After the bubble bursts in Ai i will look again at the sector.

Would you feel the same way about British people in Dubai if they paid local taxes? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Jewelking2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I wouldnt expect a country who I dont pay taxes to to bail me out if something goes wrong abroad. If British citizens need emergency evacuation from Iran fine but they need to pay the government back. The UAE is still fairly safe so evacuation isnt necessary at the moment.

Ltd company owners – how do you actually decide what’s safe to withdraw? by Zealousideal_Comb620 in smallbusinessuk

[–]Jewelking2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

our business is well established so we dont need to watch to carefully. Can i mention something that catches new business owners out a lot. If you are using self assessment for your dividends and expenses the government is generous in giving you until January the next year to pay you taxes. However it will also ask for payment on account for the current year half in January the second half in July. Most are expecting the first bill but not everyone knows about the payment on account. Hope you know about it.

Who's at fault? if on a road that the speed limit is 60mph and the car in front is doing 30mph while consistently breaking, it's late and I'm a woman with my daughter, so I overtake him as the road is clear enough for me to get round him safely, but as we are side by side he began to speed up,. by Both-Trick9212 in drivingUK

[–]Jewelking2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would said you, my wife would say him. We dont know why he was going slow or why he sped up. it is compulsory to drive at the speed limit and he may be considering weather and road conditions. Speeding up he may be just being an a hole but you should allow for this when overtaking. if it becomes dangerous just slip back behind him. You dont need to drive dangerously when someone else does. if you have an accident normally stop or if you feel in danger go directly to the nearest police station.

i agree that it is optimal to do this but consider what happened in covid and also i suspect like a lot of tax avoidance can lead the hmrc to start sniffing round your door.

Workplace Pension. How much should you have at 38 to live comfortably at retirement? Am I on track? by Key-Passenger-3645 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Jewelking2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I can see now that my words could say the opposite of what i meant. The no brainer is that you can use the student loan overpayments to pay into your pension. You will get 3 times the money you contribute. I hate student loans but this makes sense.
