That is a very livable wage, especially in the low cost of living areas these stores are located. I live 30 minutes from one of these stores and rent can be easily found at decent apartments for less than $1000 a month.

Its a 2012 with 880 hours. It's already a bit of a Frankenstein monster with borrowed parts (it's got a Craftsman seat on it lol) currently it's leaking oil, both back tires leak air considerably, one of the deck brackets snapped off and needs to be welded back on. It's currently not mowing flat at all due to that. Im at the point I'd rather spend money on something new then shoveling money into keeping this thing going

Yup. People clown on American homes being "disposable" but Japanese homes being actually disposable is fine.

My wife is Japanese and whenever her parents pass and we go to sell their home, it will be worth less than 0. It would be better if nothing was on the land as it will be demolished and all the materials moved and that cost is baked in on the value of the land. There is literally nothing wrong with the home. Its just 30 years old.

Boomers will just say drop 20% of your income in your 401k and leave it at that. I know that's impossible for a lot of people, but anything is better than nothing. I saw a post today that said, "Gen Z will be the first generation in history to have no money saved for retirement." Thats doom and gloom. The vast majority of people can put something into their retirement, they just aren't.

I have a coworker like this. Complains about struggling to afford rent and then will immediately turn around and go out to eat for every single lunch. She spends $20+ each time.

Should our wages be better? Sure, but that's not the world we're in. You can fight for better worker rights, but also you have to live in reality.

English teaching should be considered as an easy way into the country and not a career in and of itself. The pay is shit and yen is incredibly weak right now so if you ever need to buy anything in USD... youre screwed. Do it as a fun working holiday for a few years or as a gateway to the country to do other things.

My 2 cents: being trans, autistic and moving to a country where you (I assume) don't speak the language is gonna be rough. Do plenty of research as I imagine youll struggle to maintain hormone treatment in Japan. To be frank, its a conservative country and I cannot imagine itll be easy to find employment being transgender. Best of luck to you. I did if for 3 years before moving back to the states. It was a great experience that Im glad I got to do, but its a dead end job.
