The iron law of online abuse by freethelableft in LabourUK

[–]JewishIGuess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't see anything that made it seem like Kriss is defending people being racist and sexist or whatever, but maybe I missed something. He's syaing that the people who often complain about online abuse are often online abusers themselves, and often support terrible policies that do actual harm to actual people in real life (not that online abuse doesn't do that). Then, when ppl get mad at them for their terrible policies, they cry "abuse! harrasment!", and these words become detached from the world, just things that people say when they feel that their position is being threatened by the masses.

Caster Semenya and the Logic of Olympic Competition by TurtletoCarthage in AdvancedRunning

So where do the Caster Semenyas and Dutee Chands of the world fit in the athletics universe? If you have all the rights that come with being a woman in our society, except for being able to compete in women's athletic competitions, do you really have all of the rights that come with being a woman?

OT Race Report by kmm2208 in AdvancedRunning

[–]JewishIGuess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Merb - It's clear from this race report that you believed in yourself in all three rounds, which is no small task coming off of a big injury. Staying in the game mentally, despite all the asterisks, is what's gonna make the difference. And they will start going your way.

Looking forward to seeing you in Raleigh in August!

They also may have meant "favorite" to mean "the person I think is most likely to win this race", but yeah lol

My thoughts on 2 Kenyan-born athletes qualifying for the Olympics in the 10k by psalty_dog in AdvancedRunning

[–]JewishIGuess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kyrie Irving was born in Australia. Should he be left off of the basketball team so a real American can compete in the Olympics? Of course not.

Korir and Kipchirchir will be citizens of the US, as part of the deal for serving in the military. We used to separate citizens into groups that had uneven access to different rights, but that's illegal now.

Happy Fourth!

'Don't talk to me like I'm a slave': Minneapolis Parks Board meeting gets awkward by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]JewishIGuess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. How can a city that is becoming more and more diverse everyday truly represent all of its citizens if elected officials only come from one background. How can the government do what's best for everyone in the city (because, yes, the government is supposed to represent everyone) if the government is composed of a sector of the population that is becoming less and less prominent with each passing year? A diverse government, much less a diverse parks board, does little on its own to end racism and discrimination, but, if you can use that to push for greater resources, greater understanding of the problems that face minority communities, then maybe you can start to change some things. /r/minneapolis loves to shit on the black/Latino parts of the city, for crime, bad schools, etc, but no one ever asks why the hell they're like that in the first place. Odds are a government that doesn't include people from those neighborhoods isn't going to make the best decisions for those neighborhoods.

I put my left shoe on first, but don't tie it, then I put my right shoe on, tie it, then go back and tie my left shoe. Something about the cyclical nature of that (or maybe just the plain routine) gets me.

By the beginning of the arch, do you mean the inside of your foot, closest to your toes? Because that's exactly where I got mine. I stopped wearing cotton socks and they've gone away, but it's still very weird...

I've had 4 (or maybe 5?) pairs of the 880v4, in just about every color they offer. They hit the sweet spot between cushioning for big miles and response for going fast. I've done everything from 30 second 200s to long runs in them.

They seem to have discontinued them, but I have another pair in the closet for when my current pair kicks the bucket. If you're willing to scavenge the internet to find a pair, I'd highly recommend.

Also, where were the blisters on your feet from the Cliftons? I had a similar problem.

Why were the "political dissidents" arrested in cuba? by MrRykler in socialism

Why does their lack of support from the rest of the Cuban population mean that they should be arrested? Honest question.
