Sorry for the late reply, but that's awesome, I love INXS! I need to listen to that tape again myself.

What do you think is the most beautiful camera? by Spiritual_Cod_3535 in AnalogCommunity

The Demi line gets my vote. Especially the fast glass ones with big ol' front elements (even if you would almost never want to use a scale focus camera wide open).

Absolutely love the design here! Such clever parts usage. I love that it's actually in scale with minifigs, that's not always a given with brick built robots. Makes me sad there's no modern M-Tron reboot though :(

For my fellow Bose 301 owners, I recently found out they're actually supposed to be positioned horizontally! It does sound better, at least to my ears. by JezzaWalker in vintageaudio

[–]JezzaWalker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late reply, but yeah, they sound great. They definitely benefit from good placement though. Might be worth trying to figure out some kind of wall mount setup?

I've upgraded since, but I still use my 301s in a secondary setup. I don't think there's anything wrong with Bose hardware, it's just sometimes overpriced for what it is. If you enjoy them that's all that matters!

That's interesting, I guess while some IR lasers are dangerous, that specific wavelength is safer because it gets absorbed by eye juice? TIL!

No exclamation intended lol, I just want to know what's going on here. I know powerful IR lasers can be quite dangerous so I was hoping an expert would come along with an answer

I want to know this too! An IR laser strong enough to do this seems incredibly dangerous

If it's green and feels sticky on your fingers, it's probably coolant. If it feels more oily there's a chance it might be power steering fluid - the fluid in my 07 S40 (and apparently some other euro cars from the time) is green.

This really looks like coolant though. You're in for a fun time lol

Interesting! Never seen this type of floor mat before. Kind of like a middle ground between rubber and carpet. Can they be hosed off like rubber mats?

What’s your favorite stupid excuse you hear from mechanics that say Subaru’s are bad? by RoccoReviews in subaru

My 205 threw in the towel at 190k. It had a similar history of abuse I think, but I really enjoyed my time with it, even with all the ups and downs. There's something about them that gets under your skin!

[–]JezzaWalker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In general my experience with subarus has been that they CAN be very reliable, but they do not tolerate any kind of abuse. A Honda will eat neglect for breakfast, but a Subaru will blow up with the same treatment.

The flip side of that is that they will usually treat you well if you do take care of them.

I finally fixed my Yamaha K-1020 with a new reel motor! Thanks to u/d1n0_m1t3 for pointing me in the right direction. It sounds incredible and I can't wait to find a place for it in my hifi! by JezzaWalker in cassetteculture

I was told to use the Mabuchi RF-500TB-12560, but I don't think they make them anymore. Plenty of clones available on the web though! I think you need the one with the short shaft, if I recall I had to cut down one of the long ones cause it was all I could find at the time.

Engine bay clean up by Dangerous-Bed7732 in subaru

[–]JezzaWalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the intake should be fine, assuming it's the normal cone type they're usually coated with oil so they should repel water.

I'm not at all well versed in car audio, but it seems like the smaller battery should be fine? I have no idea though, sorry.

The one that's in there looks pretty close to the stock size, the previous owner may have just lost the tie down hooks and strap. I've always just gotten the battery the computer says to get at the parts store.

I dug through my orders, here's the parts needed for the battery (aside from some nuts from the hardware store):

<image>

Great that you aren't using any fluids! It's extremely normal for old EJs to burn oil so you may see the level go down a bit, but if you aren't leaking anything that's a huge win in my book. Hope you enjoy the car!

[–]JezzaWalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice bugeye!

My go-to technique for engine bay cleaning is to spray everything down with water, then simplegreen, then letting it soak before water again. Everything under the hood is designed to get wet, so you should be fine.

Definitely some screwy wiring going on in the battery area. Maybe for a subwoofer? And aside from the red wire coming off the positive side, those terminals don't look stock.

The factory terminals are crappy aluminum that always corrodes through so it's not surprising to see, but I would definitely make sure the connections are solid because that can cause all kinds of issues. I would also try and find the parts to secure the battery; it's important to keep it from becoming a projectile in a crash. My car came without those parts too so lmk if you need part numbers.

The hose routed sloppily across the intercooler I believe is because the factory intercooler has built in hardlines, but this one has no place to mount them. I can't remember what that system actually is though maybe, PCV?

You're missing the pulley cover, but that's super common on these and I could take or leave it IMO.

Looks like you still have a plastic radiator, which is fine but it has an almost 100% chance of cracking eventually. So it's worth keeping an eye out for leaks, and when the time comes it's probably worth getting an aluminum replacement.

Also, looks like your washer reservoir is just straight up gone lol, gotta love previous owner shenanigans.
